Warring on children

Humans have waged war on children from the moment humans were created, at least, it seems that way. There's the current hot topic war over unborn children, the war over i*****l i*******t children, just to name a few current wars. However, we have waged war on children forever.

Some wars targeted children specifically, US citizens on Native Americans, N**i's on the Jews, and the slew of genocides going back 1000's of years. By far and away, the largest threat to children in the 21st century, are the 100's of wars currently being waged around the world, just as has always been the case in the 1000's of previous wars.

Mostly, the children are collateral damage, and we, as Americans, have become enured and numb to the sheer scale of these massacres. Children dying as a direct result of artillery, both air and ground. Children dying as a result of diseases, the inevitable consequence of the disruption and contamination of water and food supplies. Children dying by being caught in the crossfire of warring elements. And, children dying by being co-opted or conscripted into the various armies and m*****as worldwide.

Malnutrition and disease, while not quite so prevalent in the US, are rampant in every area where the US has troops engaged in combat or support missions....................and we do little about it. Indeed, children right here in the good old USA die daily as a result of malnutrition, lack of adequate healthcare, exposure to the elements and at the top of this deadly list.....................violence................and we do little about it.

Even here in America, Children have become political fodder, expendable commodities to be used for bashing one another over ideological differences. It's a wonder that the human race has survived this long, because, when you wage war on the next generation, through direct or indirect means, or allow others to do so unchecked, you put the future at risk.

Children are not born Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, bigots, r****t, h**ers or anything else...............it's we i***t adults who teach them that stuff. We might want to consider calling a truce in our war on children.

An interesting perspective...

It is true that children are often the victims of our foolish disputes...

The implication of this liberal's opening post is that we have declared war on children. Yes, children are victims of war. Most of the time. As are adults.

However, we might look at the historical records. Let's take WW2 for example. Germany, Japan and Russia all recruited children--I'm talking about kids 8, 9, 10 years and up--and trained them to fight.

Every nation recruits young men (and women) to fight their wars. 17 isn't exactly what you'd call a fully developed adult. For instance, the youngest Marine who fought on Iwo Jima was 14. He lied about his age to get in.

Children as soldiers

Remember, CD, David was just 16 when he popped Goliath.

The t***h bites don't it. How many times do I have to tell you that I am neither a liberal nor a conservative? Small minded people label others who reveal inconvenient t***hs.

I suppose I could conclude that conservatives don't give a damn about children, however, I do not, because that would be wrong and small minded.

Have you counted the number of children dying daily in Yemen? The United Nations should have taken control of the ports there to ensure food and clean water delivery to civilians, but it did not.....because some of the permanent members vetoed those resolutions. The US could have become involved in some manner to mitigate the massacre. The US did become involved - by supplying weapons and support to the Saudi's who are part of the problem.

The war on children may be unintentional, because we don't pay attention to the details.
