D Day Museum

Yesterday for my husband’s birthday, fourteen of us went to New Orleans to the much enlarged D Day Museum. We’ve been several times but it now encompasses a comprehensive area on the war with Japan. If you fave an opportunity, please see for yourself. The thing that I thought about while we spent five hours there were the brave men and boys who died for the world to be free. One young man enlisted when he was fourteen and through bravery and heroism was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously. Meanwhile, here in today’s real world, our young people, not all, but many are whiny babies or bullies and we, the adults, are sitting back complacently while our country is being taken over. When will we decide to act with the bravery of our fathers and get a grip on things? By the way, our children, their spouses and a few of our grandchildren made up our fourteen. My husband is a retiree and my son is an airman.

Good to know. Visit my granddaughter in Virginia and check it out. A man in New Orleans designed and built the landing craft that were used at DDay which brought about this museum in NO. Tom Hanks narrated the movie that you see before beginning the tour. Would be interested to check out both. We can’t say enough about those very courageous men who bought freedom for us so often paying with their lives.

It was built there because that county lost a very high percentage of men on DDAY. in case you do not know Bedford is on route 460 between Lynchburg and Roanoke.

They are called "Higgins Boats". Mostly built with plywood as were most of the PT boats. Mike

Yes, I saw one of them on display. It’s a totally fascinating tribute to the brave men and the women, but especially the men and boys. Some so young and so sad.
