Once again we had another mass shooting involving a semi-automatic weapon. So what's the solution? Well, we can start by banning the weapon of choice--the semi-automatic weapon. Do that, and we at least give people a chance. And notice, I am not saying ban all guns just the ones responsible for all the mass slayings. This leaves bolt actions, pumps, and revolvers to satisfy our second amendment requirement--all of which are better than when the second amendment was written.

This leaves the question of how we enforce such a law and as I stated before--a fine of 10,000 and a couple of years in jail will lend to them being turned in in droves. Of course, the most radical right wing nuts will hold out but there is no argument that outweighs the common good of our country and that's what it comes down to...the common good.

That is s***e talk. The problem isn’t guns but tackling the underlying problems is more difficult than taking away rights. But gun grabbers won’t address them because it takes more effort and because its not really about saving lives. It never was. If it were the left would do something about the 800,000 innocent lives k**led every year.

Why are our (liberal) school systems turning out so many more "Mass Murderers" today?

Guns do not k**l people, people k**l people, the question should be WHY!

If some are willing to break one of the most basic laws, that of taking human lives, how do you propose that breaking a man-made law, owning an illegal firearm, would take care of the problem? I'm sure that if that were passed, all the law-breakers would immediately turn in all their firearms.

Except that would only serve to cause lawful owners to be outgunned, you know, the people who don’t make a habit of shooting lots of defenseless people.

Just take a look at how successful gun control is in Democratic-controlled cities.
Then what right do you want to eliminate next?
The right to bear arms is a common good.

It should not surprise anyone that PeterS equates his opinion with the common good. He must have a slot on top of his head where anyone can insert a copy of the progressive cause du jour, pull on his ear and out of his mouth pops the programmed rhetoric. As someone points out, the Virginia Beach gunman did not have automatics nor semi-automatics.

Finally, there is one thing he and his co-ideologues never discuss about gun rights. As Thomas Jefferson wrote in The Declaration of Independence, it is the right of the citizens to rise up and replace the government with another. How do you do that with simple rifles and pistols?

There is literally no way to remove significant quantities of firearms. If, by some aberration, such firearms are banned and citizens ordered to turn them over, even on penalty of death, millions would begin an elaborate shell game with said weapons. The government would have to search every home, business, boat, aircraft, hunting cabin, shed, barn, storage unit, etc.........................and do so simultaneously.

Figuring out why so many Americans turn to violence to solve their problems, might generate some clues that would help develop a strategy that would actually make a difference.

The handguns he used were semi-automatic. And that they were bought legally is all the more reason they shouldn't be...

No, but the police will still have their arms and the ban isn't on all guns--just semi-automatic's. You just need to be sure to k**l the bad guy before you have to reload...

And why didn't liberal school systems NOT turn out mass murderers in the past? Put a lethal weapon in the hands of a lunatic and they will use it. As the population grows the number of lunatics grow. Understand???
