Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos became a central figure in the “spygate” scandal.
The Obama administration and the FBI deployed two human spies to covertly question Papadopoulos about the Trump campaign and Russia.
But as time wore on and more revelations about the spying emerged, Papadopoulos began to piece together random encounters that seemed to add up to a massive conspiracy.
Appearing on Tucker Carlson’s show, Papadopoulos revealed for the first time his belief that the Obama administration’s spying started long before anyone realized and that the targets were more extensive than just Donald Trump.
Papadopoulos recounted how in 2015 – when he was working for Ben Carson’s campaign – he received strange invitations from U.S. State Department and CIA officials in London.
“In November of 2015, upon the same month that I was going to the Ben Carson campaign—because people forget that I was on Carson’s campaign before I joined Trump’s campaign—I was living in London and I had been approached by high-level State Department officials and even the CIA in London,” Papadopoulos said.
“They invited me to the U.S. embassy to meet with me and to basically probe me and to get to know why I’m joining the Ben Carson campaign and what the Ben Carson campaign was really all about. And the man who invited me was David Kovatch, who still works at the U.S. embassy in London. I think he’s directing the Energy Department over there. So clearly, by November 2015, I don’t think that Trump’s campaign was the only one that was under surveillance, quite frankly.”
“I think many of the Republican candidates probably had some sort of illicit surveillance upon their own campaigns, because it wasn’t just Donald Trump who was running for the presidency against Clinton…”
Papadopoulos’s interview raises disturbing questions.
It does not appear that the Obama administration and the FBI spying on Trump was an isolated incident.
And it also explains why the FBI spied on the Trump campaign under false pretenses.
When George Papadopoulos met with Australian diplomat Alexander Downer, he never mentioned that he was told the Russians had Hillary Clinton emails.
And when Downer reported the conversation to his own government, he never said Papadopoulos mentioned the Russians having Clinton’s emails.
But Papadopoulos’s interview with Carlson shows that the Obama administration may have been sniffing around the various Republican campaigns and hunting around for f**e pretexts to establish an FBI surveillance program should they win the nomination.
If the Obama administration and the FBI caused the Carson and Trump campaigns to discover vulnerabilities, how many of the other 15 Republican candidates were under surveillance?
