My uncle has raised and trained several German Shepherds. I found Pete after a 2 year search.

That's a gem, Tom!
We had one once who we didn't have the time to train properly, and gave him back. The most amazing natural working instincts I've ever seen in a dog.
We would fly home from work needing to load horses for the riding club events, or practaces, and couldn't find a horse anywhere. That damn dog would have all 7 of them penned way up in the corner, and wouldn't let em out.
And, of course, the kids have been home from school, and are laying around peeling it. Watching TV, and eating us out of house, and home.

He was two when I got him. His owner bought 2 Bernese mountain dogs because she wanted guards not herders. I got a $1400 dog for free. The lady gave up on the mountain dogs a few months later and gave them away too. Now she has a Bernese pup. Some people have more money than good sence.

Good grief!!! Most of the larger breeds are " guard dogs" if they are raised with love. Their instinct is to protect!! Smaller dogs, too, but tho they have the heart they dont have the brawn. I dont understand getting then discarding dogs, or any animal companion.

Considering how many people acquire and then discard spouses, why should it surprise you at all when they do the same with their pets??
