Trump Backs Down on US Troop Withdrawal From Syria

As an US Citizen, reading the following two articles below should deeply offend your conscience and offend your moral sensibilities.

I, as well as many initial Trump supporters, v**ed for him based upon his campaign assurances that America should be extracting itself from endless foreign wars that are not a direct threat to US National Security.

The president has repeatedly backed down (albeit from pressure on his neo-con advisors [which he appointed] and entrenched deep state bureaucracy) from those campaign promises.

As the following articles point out, the Syrian population is now facing a very severe oil shortage crisis. Why, because of of new US-led oil sanctions targeting Damascus and Tehran.

As the second article points out, "The deep irony of the tragic Syria war is that after seven years of massive bloodshed, as the government has emerged victorious, it is only now with relative stability and ensuing calm over most of the country that an "economic siege" has hit the population with full force."

"Lifeless" and "decimated economy" are words used to describe the Syrian capital city and home to Assad in a new Bloomberg piece (which appeared just as busy as most any global cosmopolitan center only months ago), as further "traffic is light" and "morale is down," according to the report.

"Waiting 19 hours for gas in a lifeless city" — the headlines read. The ongoing weeks-long crisis has now been made especially worse after the Trump administration this week ended embargo exemptions for eight countries allowed to purchase Iranian crude.

"Lines of cars stretching for miles wait hours to fill their tanks with the 20 liters of gasoline that Syrians in government-controlled areas are allowed every five days," Bloomberg describes. "The last shipment of oil from Iran, which was sending up to 3 million barrels a month, came in October before sanctions were resumed."

WHY RENEW THE OIL SANCTIONS NOW?

Glad you asked. "The WSJ reported last month that Iranian oil had been routinely delivered to Syria throughout most of the war, but now "U.S. sanctions have cut off Iranian oil shipments to Syria, taking an unprecedented toll on a flow of crude that had persisted in the face of long-term international restrictions and helped sustain the Assad regime through years of civil war."

So why did Washington previously keep it flowing? Why cut off supplies now through increased sanctions? Simply put, Assad and his Iranian allies won the war.

And so long as there were US-Saudi supported "rebels" entrenched in Damascus' suburbs, such as Eastern Ghouta, and other pockets across the country, any targeting of Syrian oil imports at that time would have strangled not only the regime but America's proxies on the ground as well."

War is over, Assad has won, now economically starve the region, a la Venezuela!!

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE (IF THAT IS POSSIBLE) See second article

A high level Pentagon official has admitted that US forces will be in Syria for "the long haul" and coupled his statement by declaring the territory contains “a lot of the oil resources and arable land.”

The unusually frank remarks were made this week by Michael Mulroy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, while addressing a conference at the D.C. based Center for a New American Security (CNAS), months after President Trump appeared to have caved to his advisers, reversing course earlier this year from his stated goal of a full and rapid US troop exit from Syria.

Mulroy said “we have a very capable partner” — in reference to the primarily Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) — and quickly noted the US-trained SDF happens to occupy key regions in eastern Syria with "a lot of the oil resources and arable land," and added that, "we are there with them".

The Pentagon official further vouched for the think tank's new feature policy recommendations on Syria which call among other things for continuing to "maintain a presence in over one-third of the country."

So, in other words, the Syrian War is over, and the terrorists have been defeated. So, instead of bringing our troops home, we will continue to keep them in Syria and control one third of the country, INCLUDING the oil rich al-Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor, which is controlled by US supported Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

And we complain about stupid "Russian Interference with US e******ns", and brag about how we respect Democracy and the will of the people who elect their leaders. What a bunch of horse-s**t.

Trump ending the US intervention in Syria was one of the highlights of his presidency for me...

This is sad and wrong for so many reasons...

An entirely new generation of American hating jihadis will be birthed from this...
