One piece of paper just turned Barack Obama’s world upside down

Politics 13

Barack Obama continues to suffer one massive defeat after another.

Since leaving office, everything he put in place is crumbling around him.

And this one piece of paper turned Barack Obama’s world upside down.

While in office, Obama did everything in his power to strangle the American economy.

One example was his Labor Department tightening the rules on “gig economy” employers like Uber – the most popular ride sharing service in America.

The Obama administration wanted to force all these workers into unions, so they worked to classify them as “employees” instead of “contractors” to eliminate the economic competition to unionized taxi drivers.

But the Trump administration ended this assault on economic liberty.

The Department of Labor issued a letter relaxing the Obama-era restrictions on “gig economy” workers being classified as contractors.

The Daily Caller reports:

“An important role of the U.S. Department of Labor is to ensure that employers who want to do the right thing have clear compliance assistance,” DOL Wage and Hour Division acting Administrator Keith Sonderling said in a statement. “Today, the U.S. Department of Labor offers further insight into the nexus of current labor law and innovations in the job market.”

The opinion letter represents a shift from the apparent stance of former President Barack Obama’s administration. The DOL under Obama stated that the service providers in companies such as Uber and Lyft are likely misclassified and should be considered employees, according to The New York Times.

“It is outrageous for the Department of Labor to set policy in such an important area through the device of an opinion letter,” David Weil, who ran the Wage and Hour Division under Obama, told TheNYT. “The Obama administration discontinued opinion letters precisely because they are a capricious tool for settling complicated regulatory questions.”

Taxi drivers are unionized employees.

Their forced dues fund the Democrat Party political machine.

If companies like Uber and Lyft can offer a better service at a lower price, then taxi cab companies will go out of business.

That will deprive the Democrats of millions of dollars in forced union dues and political contributions.
