Farm Road 1105

Weir Texas is north and a bit east of Austin.

There's a road that leads due North from Weir and ends up in Walburg.

That's the wonderful farm road 1105.

I've been there all week with my boss and three technicians, testing some awesome new equipment.

I wish I had time to go into detail about this adventure, but words would do no justice to the wonder of springtime in Texas.

All I can say is, go drive down fm1105 and I'll guarantee you'll turn around and drive it one more time.

I took a couple of amateur photos with my phone, but they're not even close to the majesty of what I witnessed.

By the way, if you like a good fresh beef burger, stop at "Dale's" in Walburg.

You're a daisy if you do.

Happy Trails citizens......and you too .......Goobers.

Wolf, it's been a good while since I traveled that area, but my memories match your praise of it.

Walburg, originally called Concordia, is an unincorporated area located at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road 972 (FM 972) and Farm to Market Road 1105 (FM 1105) in Williamson County, Texas, United States, thirty-three miles northeast of Austin. Walburg is a German American settlement. With its heritage of buildings from the late 1890s, Walburg is a popular site for films, including 'Michael' and 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre'. Walburg also hosted filming for the motion picture 'Stars Over Henrietta'.

Walburg is known for being a German farming community and has two Lutheran churches, one an LCMS congregation and one LCMC Congregation. Zion Lutheran (http://zionwalburg.org/) sits on a hill overlooking the community and hosts an Annual Wurstbraten which attracts and serves several thousand each year. St. Peter Lutheran is the other Lutheran Church in the immediate vicinity of Walburg.

Walburg also hosts several notable businesses and previously had its own bank. Walburg State Bank, as it was once known, survived independently even through several national banking collapses. It was sold in the early 1990s and closed its Walburg location.

Walburg is home to two restaurants, Dale's Essenhaus and The Walburg Restaurant. Both feature live music venues which can be heard through the hills and pastures surrounding Walburg on weekend evenings.

Walburg is also home to two graveyards. Zion Lutheran's graveyard is right next to the church. The other graveyard is slightly farther down the road. This one contains a certain tree from which an alleged horse thief in the 1800s was hanged. It is often said that his ghost haunts the town.

I had a bacon cheeseburger at Dale's that was almost intoxicating.

One of our techs lives on his great great grandparents farm just east of Weir.

He and his parents have preserved everything on this farm and it is in museum quality condition.

Their German bloodlines are well documented and photographed.

It was an amazing week.

It's been many years since I've been down to that part of the great nation of Texas, but I can almost guarantee that if you ever go there, you'll be tempted to move there, and set up your own sammich shop!

Maybe I should, I make great sammiches! But no worries Arch if I ever move it'll be north from where I am, it's hot enough for me here, I like cool brisk weather. I like to lay in the grass without being attacked by bugs

I'm with ya on the bugs! I sprayed today, and tomorrow I have to take the dogs in to get weighed for their flea, and tick stuff.
