And it breaches a very important topic... How far are Americans as a society willing to change to accomodate other cultures?

You asked the wrong question. We don’t need to accommodate them. They are coming here and they need to change.

I don't think America should change at all. Incorporate those things that enhance us all as a people? Sure. Give up our identity to accommodate others? Oh, hell no!

Yeah, I don't want to be around to see that, either.

It's a h**x. Why even take it seriously?

You are also dealing with the wrong question. Why, I ask myself, is the right so willing to make up and perpetrate these falsehoods? It's the same thing as the W. Virginia 87M housing h**x from another thread. Lies and stories about Muslims and their supposed plots are continuously spread by the internet and posted as though they were fact.

It's like we're back to hunting witches.

I was addressing a different question not the holiday thing.

I do wonder though why the left is so accomodating to a religion that has proven itself to be parasitic. Even when the cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb came out the defended the frothing at the mouth reaction by muslims and President Clinton even condemned the cartoon. But put a crucifix in urine or have a naked Jesus with an arm around a young boy and there’s nary a peep from the left. And no r**ts from Christians either.

I do tend to agree with your observation here about our reactions to the different 'artistic' pieces. I have a hypothesis, however it would just be personal opinion with no back up.

I would be interested in hearing your hypothesis...
If you don't want to post it publicly, PM would be fine

I agree... There are different reactions from different groups...
I find all offensive (Though one of those Mohammed cartoons cracked me up... The one where he is in a psychiatrist's office, complaining that other prophets have followers with a sense of humor...)

As I recall there were rather loud demonstrations against both of the examples above...

I chalk the differences in reaction up to differences in society more than differences in ideology...

The more developed, stable Muslim nations reacted in a more vocal way... The poorer, more war torn nations reacted in a far more extreme way... Often with the support of government... Nothing like finding a greater enemy to keep folk under wrap....

Isn’t that what the forum is for- opinions?

Yet ideology is part of society. Same reaction just no frothing at the mouth.

And no the reactions weren’t in the same ballpark. Not even close.

Ideology plays a part in society... Of course...
Poverty and endemic violence wear away at the more noble aspects of humanity...

There have been Christian nations in the past that have reacted violently to perceived slights... I am given to understand that the Puritans could be rather harsh with their judgements (Though I might be thinking of another group...)

Even Buddhists (Possibly the most pacifist of ideologies) are currently carrying out a rather violent genocide against an ethnic group in Myanmar...

I did not hear anything about Myanmar. I will have to check that out. Never really heard of Buddhists persecuting anyone.

Yes... It blew my mind when I first read of it...
Especially as it is the government of Aang San Suu Kyi...(Another Nobel Peace Prize winner...)

The ethnic group are known as the Rohingya...
Over 10,000 k**led in 2017...Hundreds of thousands displaced... Towns burned... Raping nd sexual abuse... Reporters imprisoned...

Yet the world remains mostly silent...
Has been going on for decades.. But flared up again recently...

People are d********g at times...
