Luke chapter 12 first half

Verse 1

Man lives not by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Levin is like yeast. It adds no nutrition, but will change the shape of the dough. The Pharisees followed the tradition of the elders, rather than God, and would wash their hands like a surgeon up to the elbow before every meal. They couldn’t heal, had no compassion, and didn’t improve the lives of anybody They were like graves, inside they contained dead men’s bones. They wanted to look holy, without being holy. A hypocrite is an actor, someone who pretends to be someone he is not, in situations that never happened.

Verse 2 and 3

Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables, but explained everything to His disciples. He later gave His disciples the great commission. He never gave the great commission to the Pharisees. You can’t lead anyone to Christ unless you have followed Him. Unless you have followed Him, how can you know how to find Him?

Verse 4 - 7

We all will die. We should fear God more than man. Sam Kinison was a preacher. He left the ministry to become a stand up comedian. He enjoys the sex and drugs that a millionaire’s lifestyle can afford. When he gets in his late 30’s or early 40’s, he cleans up his life, stops the drugs and alcohol, and gets married. He is then killed in a car accident. The driver that hit him was drunk. I guess God has a sense of humor too. Sam’s death proves there’s more to life than this life. Before he dies, he is in a conversation with someone. He clearly says, “I don’t want to die”. He later says “okay” and then dies. What good does it do to gain the whole world, and lose your soul? Sam’s death taught more about an afterlife than any other preacher.

Verse 8 and 9

They profess that they know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 1:16

Verse 10

You can be forgiven for speaking ill of Jesus, but there is a sin you can commit for which there is no forgiveness, not in this life or the life to come.

Verse 11 and 12

When you are brought up before council, don’t plan your words. Just say the first thing that comes up in your mind.

Verse 13 - 21

A man’s life consist of more than the things he possess. We came into this world naked. That is how we will leave. We won’t carry anything in our hands into the next life. We will leave everything we possess here, on this earth.

Verse 22 - 30

What was translated “take no thought” would have been better translated “don’t be overly concerned”. All adults should provide for themselves, but man makes money, imoney doesn’t make man. God will supply your needs according to His riches in glory. You have to supply your wants. You need food and shelter. Most large cities provide a place that you can sleep and eat for free. If you want better accommodations or treatment, you must provide for yourself. God doesn’t strap on a feedsack and feed the birds every morning. He designed nature. None of us can add an inch to our height or a minute to our life. God is in control.
