After the mtg Jr phoned Trump who took the call on a burner phone that couldn't be bugged then when on Airforce One dictated a lie to Hope Hicks Trump Jr was to tell the press that the mtg. was about Russian adoptions which he repeated to congress

He wasn't hired to be fair or honest, he was hired to destroy the president by any means necessary. He only failed because Trump is too clean even to be framed.
Mueller was chosen as special counsel because he has long been a hatchet man for Obama, Hillary and the deep state.
It was sort of like it would be if Frank Nitti had been hired to investigate Eliot Ness.
