I live in a small town (population 850, we're the big town). Our streets are clean, women and children can walk without fear, or the need of someone escorting them for protection. We've just experienced historic flooding. We didn't wait for the government to come to our rescue. We jumped in ourselves. We didn't have the l**ting and r**ting that always seems to accompany even minor disasters. People around here aren't lining up for government assistance unless they really and truly need it. Even most who would get the assistance, decline it. I was told we were eligible, but I declined it. I was only inconvenienced, what little damage we got, I can take care of myself. It's this attitude that the liberals cannot understand.

Mostly because it doesn't involve passing the buck, blaming someone else, or throwing someone else's money at it. Liberals have comprehension problems when it comes to personal responsibility. It's always better to refer it to a committee so no one has to take blame or responsibility. That is the core of Liberal belief.

There is a song by Chad Brock that explains it very well. Conservatives are the lightning, with liberals being the thunder. The song is called Lightning Does The Work (Thunder's Just A Noise). Sorry, never can get the links right.

Actually most younger and middle aged farmers have college deg's in accounting / animal husbandry / row crop grain marketing deg's plus other Ag degs in technologies such as chemical and fertilizer chemistry and GPS far from being the r****t and stupidest people !

I have no doubt many intelligence farmers could put to shame this gal as well as other progressive l*****t !

Don't mention Animal Husbandry to any "progressives," wh**ever you do. They'll think it's something else and organize a large demonstration to protect its rights.

What the "progressive" journalist failed to add was that when she said "people like us" she meant people who would move in en masse, elect politicians who would raise taxes in order to expand already sufficient bureaucracies and create unnecessary new ones and drive up the cost of living for residents who have lived there affordably for their entire lives.

I would be very careful about inviting in anyone a "progressive" referred to as "people like us."
What the "progressive" journalist failed... (show quote)

Three years ago we moved from a (once great) liberal diverse community to an all white affluent town 30 miles away.
I DO NOT MISS DIVERSITY!
Diversity only works for the diverse.

Gee Kick, I like the description of the small town. I agree pretty much, but I can give you quite a list of nasty crimes in small town America..

As far as declining assistance.. I truly think if you paid taxes, use all the exceptions etc that law allows, then you certainly should accept that assistance.
After all, you are paying for it...

Glad you damage was not greater..

We've had damage in the past that the government didn't think was damaged. Our crop was washed out and the government told us that it didn't count as a crop. We were raising alfalfa, but according to some bureaucrat alfalfa didn't qualify as a crop, so no help replanting. Then about 10 years ago, we had 120 mile per hour winds come through and take out power for just over a week (I know, not as bad as some who suffered longer power losses from hurricanes). I hand hauled water a quarter mile from the creek to supply my livestock and lost 3 freezers of meat (duck, goose, chicken, beef, pork, venison). People in the city who only lost power for a couple of days, received the same compensation as my neighbors and me. With my past experiences of the government helping in a disaster, I could tell them what to do with their help but I don't use that kind of language, especially in front of the ladies.

Oof da.... the water hauling seems far more then I would want to do... And all that meat... OOOOOh.

You have some good reason to tell em where to go.

We, on the land that i owned until a short time ago, only had a couple of real bad years, Did not even get a crop planted due to wet weather..

the Govt did pay a modest amount in both cases..

Glad you made it through all of those trials.. Gotta be real tough to be a farmer.. you are indeed.
