There is no group of people I would use today as grand examples of goodness.
Promoting "homosexuality as a viable to be desired "normal" lifestyle with exclusive long term partners and legal rights is indeed a "Johnny come lately," as the common sense derived from the study and knowledge of God's Word of bygone eras, in which society, as a whole, understood, acknowledged and avoided sexual perversion has withered on the vine.
In the earliest recorded history of man, homosexual behavior was found to be common to those involved in alternate religions, who communed with demonic spirits from the occult, such as Shamans and Witch Doctors, who sought their own personal spiritual power, bypassing the one true Creator God.
In Biblical times, Israel had neighboring countries with many competing pagan religions whose religious rites included homosexual acts with their priests by which they were said to communicate with and win favors from their gods.
For those who follow Jesus, sexual practices are limited. This would preclude same-sex activity. Rather than take a kinder, gentler, i.e., "permissive" view of sexual immorality and divorce, Jesus affirmed that people are either to be single and celibate or married and faithful to one spouse of the opposite gender. Jesus considered any other expression of sexuality sinful.
Understanding the wheres and why fores of homosexual behavior is indeed complex, however our Lord God, whose understanding no one can question, has pretty well spelled it out in Romans 1st chapter.
Scripture is clear that believers are to have nothing to do with sexual immorality: “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). Sexual immorality, whether same-sex activity or otherwise, is a sin against a person’s own body.
It is important to note that sexual immorality, including same-sex activity, is listed alongside other sins in Scripture, indicating that God does not rank one sin as worse than another. While the consequences of some sins are greater than others, Scripture often simply lists sins side by side. For example, Jesus said, “Out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander” (Matthew 15:19–20; see also Romans 1:24–31).
Romans 1:22–31God's Wrath against Sin
God's Wrath against Sin
"Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images of mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity for the dishonoring of their bodies with one another.
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator, who is forever worthy of praise! Amen.…
For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.
Likewise, the men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Furthermore, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents.
They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless.
Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things are worthy of death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them."

All those that have not their name written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be sent to the Lake of Fire that is reserved for Satan only. We each makes the decision to enter the Lake or not. To avoid that, Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The concept of "homosexuality" as a state of being is relatively new, primarily an idea invented by psychiatrists like Freud, promoted by deviants like Kinsey. Before then it was considered an activity, against nature and the rule of God. Yes, the Egyptians practiced it, as did the Greeks and Romans. Keep in mind that all 3 of these same societies advocated sacrificing living humans to their gods, abandoning newborn babies, particularly girls, to starve to death or be eaten by wild animals. They all promoted slavery, and castrated males to make better servants for their handmaidens. Make sure your frame of reference is complete. while using these people as grand examples of goodness . Christianity asks that we love these sinners and try to help them get past the evil urges of their sinning ways so that they can heal from the damage that has given them these strong urges to do sinful things and admit their sins and seek God's forgiveness . Then God will help them be strong enough to stop acting out those serious sins of the flesh.
