Republic v,. Democracy

"I pledge allegiance to the F**g of the United States of America & to the Republic for which it stands ..."In both a republic & a democracy the people are empowered to participate in a representative political system. They elect people to represent & protect their interests.

In a republic, an official set of fundamental laws, like the U.S. Constitution & the Bill of Rights prohibits the government from limiting or taking away certain inalienable rights. Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness. Freedom of speech & Religion, The Right & Bear Arms. The only way We The People can ensure these rights are preserved. It also guarantees the Right to Self Defense. See St. George Tucker.
In a democracy, the v****g majority has almost unlimited power over the minority. In a democracy power is held by the population as a whole. In a republic the power is held by the individual citizen. See James Madison's description.
Sadly too many people refer to America as a democracy in this forum. Even worse most of our so called reps don't know the difference either !!!
