Surprisingly, Justin Winery in San Luis Obispo CA bottles a very decent Malbec.

Justin went through some hard times with quality control. Haven't had a Justin wine in years.
Try a Cahors. Great dinner wine, one of the neglected great wines of France. And no need to be careful, no importer would bring in an unknown wine that wasn't exceptionally good.
Also, any of the Rhone Valley wines are high quality and great value.

3000 bottle cellar, perhaps 12 bottles are from California. Oops, take that back, maybe 60. None are Zins.
...now Washington State wines, I've got a nice collection of those, and of course, Oregonian Pinot Noirs.
Most French, Italian, and Spanish wines occupy the racks. They age very well.
I'm getting into good bourbon and rye whiskey now. Great after dinner sippers.
