"it along with thousands of other fed laws are against the USA constitution" the only way it should have been enacted years ago was by a constitutional admendment which there is a provision to do so. The founding fathers were smart enough to know that as the counry grew and spread there would have to be an avenue to make additions to the constitution to maintain a growing nation with issues that were not even thought of at the time. Very smart idea from these guys so many years ago. They would be so upset if they could see what has happened to the Greatest Document to govern a true free people in the history of the world. If anyone wants to have a business, it should be his or her decission to pay their employees wh**ever they want. If they have problems keeping workers, it should be their decission to raise their pay. Not the government. If the states want to impose a minimum wage, that would be a state decission not the federal gov. A one size does not fit all. The present wage, which is against the constitution anyway, was never intended to be a living wage where" bingo" now i can buy a house or new car etc. It was a beginning point to learn and advance to gain expierence in the working world and work your way up the ladder of success to achieve the american dream. Having a mandated starting wage as high as 10 bucks keeps most people in a low confort zone where there is no incentive to move up. How sad. My first job was 50 cents a day pulling weeds when i was 8 years old. At 12 i was washing dishes at cafe for 1.15 an hour. Became journeyman printer after high school. Got raises on my performance. Then the homes and new cars came. The old American way was to earn your way. The income difference in this country is because the higher the minimum wage keeps people lock in a low wage job where they don't look for anything better. Again. How sad. I remember how America used to be. You earned what you have and were taught at home and school how to get there.

depressed62,
Who are you quoting in your quote? Whoever it may be, they are incorrect. In the preamble to the Constitution there is the requirement for the Federal government to work for the common welfare. I believe that making sure that people are paid a living wage falls under that requirement. I am sorry that you were used as a wage s***e during your formative years, but that does not mean that you must make sure that all others are just as miserable. I am certain that you are aware that those who are held under the thumb of those who control the money will never be able to move ahead regardless of how hard they work. This is because those who control the money control everything and will not relinguish this control unless forced by law. Hard work has little to do with it.
I am sure that you realize that the Constitution is a political document; not an economic document. As a result, any mention of economic matters beyond the common welfare clause simply doesn't exist. Therefore there is no mention of wages of any sort. However, our government, because of its mandate, must involve itself in economic matters. If you think about it, the entire panoramic of economic activity in any society depends entirely upon the wealth of all of the people not just the wealthy which makes raising the minimum wage logical. Adding a couple of billion dollars to the wealth of billionaires will not increase the economic activity of the country; adding a few thousand dollars to the income of the working poor will increase the economic activity of the country. It's a no brainer. Again, depressed62, think about it and you might not be so depressed.

Hogwash

Wages are private business agreements between employees and employers. Government has no constitutional authority to meddle in those private business agreements.

Too bad the bleeding heart, liberal welfare and low IQ people can't understand the very simplest laws of supply and demand.

It's beyond their comprehension to understand that labor is a commidity. Employees who are intelligent, competent, and industrious will make more than the worthless slobs. Price of labor is determined by a number of factors. Among these are:

The quality of the individual employee

If there are more job seekers than job suppliers, wages will generally be lower

If there are more jobs available than there are job seekers, wages will go up.

Government meddling in the job market, as in any other market is not good for the nation or for the economy.

Eliminate the minimum wage? Why don't we just eliminate all Labor laws? Then the rich and greedy can pay and do what they want, including putting children back into the mines.

Any working class person who buys into this garbage is an i***t.

That's exactly what they want. They'd love to go back to a feudal system, where the people belonged to the land ( or industry ) and the lords who owned the land - could do as they pleased with their property. Since the people belonged to the land, they were also the lords property.

Now, to be fair, the Lords were required to provide minimum housing, clothing and food, otherwise their property would perish. It was not uncommon ( and wouldn't be again ) that the Lords horses and hunting hounds were fed better than their peasants. But who cares? Without contraception or a******n, the workforce will always be replicating.

Of course the founding s***ers would have been outraged at a minimum wage. Their luxurious lifestyles were created by having help who worked at the going rate of ZERO dollars a day. I have little doubt that there are some current Americans who yearn for "the good old days", when the help didn't need money and just sang spirituals all the live long day for "massa and missus"......the dreamy world of Cliven Bundy.

Well, if you are so unsk**led, stupid or lazy that you need the minimum wage jobs, I guess you do need the federal government to force your wages upward. Most people in jobs paying minimum wage, don't deserve the money they are now getting.

My personal minimum wage is currently $30.00 per hour. If I can't get that, I won't work, or I'll start my own business. I'm educated, and have a strong work ethic, so finding a good paying job is no problem.

I get the impression that there are just to many in life feel that they will be the Lords & not the Serfs The numbers will just not work out for most.

There are many that would yearn for those days thinking it wouldn't be them in the fields singing.

Good point Floyd,

This fantasy of the serf, that he might one day be a lord, is how the Republican party keeps its far right base in line. It's the same pie-in-the-sky trickery that the church used to keep the peasants in line, promising them they they would get their rewards in the next life. Without the churches making those promises, the peasants would have gotten a little too restless,

Could it boil down to who lives in the real world & who lives in a dream world?

We have seen first hand how greedy and cruel the rich can be. When they have succeeded in paying less than nothing for unsk**led labor, do you really believe sk**led labor won't be next?

Not everyone has the resources to get a better job. Public education is not equal. College is out of reach for a majority of young people. Trade schools are very expensive. Working your way up in a company is no longer an option with most corps.

I consider myself lucky. I worked hard for my education and my business but I had advantages not everyone has. I don't understand this concept of I got mine but I don't want anyone else to have the same opportunities.
