During a fight all sides lose something

It has been my experience witnessing human nature and studying history that mankind thinks it must fight one another. Why? Is it ingrown in our makeup that we must perpetuate pain and loss for ourselves and others? It is hard for me to understand and see any benefits in fighting to the destruction of the other. I realize some of you believe survival is a benefit but is it really? Is survival to live a temporary life span in a giant world wide insane asylum a benefit? Your thoughts please.

Can't directly answer your question but would in turn, ask. Given a position of power, how would you react to the invasion of China by Japan, the invasion of Poland by Germany, the invasion of S. Korea by c*******t N. Korea, ditto Viet Nam, etc? I realize this reflects the reactions of the US to these things and does not address the beginning factors. Look at an over populated island nation, Japan observing all that wide open space waiting to be had, China.
Hitler had other ideas of international expansion and the forced acceptance of German ideals on the rest of the world. Not excusing either, merely adding to the question of why. Needed space in the first part and insanity in the second, as simple answers.

Your question was ambiguous in this way, in all of the above actions did they just want to govern the areas or become s***e masters, k*****g if they thought it necessary? In the 3 wars, I've been in the enemy wanted to k**l me, I knew that and wouldn't have respected them if they had anything less in mind. Every war is really insanity but enclosed.
As to Hitler's ideas of expansionism, if the people like the idea, for a sovereign country to makes no sense, but if they did go for it. That sovereignty exists in most countries and people, so it would be fighting against human nature (something the UN and g*******ts want btw) to simply accept it.
Or a very simple example: say your neighbor (no, I'm not trying to stir up ill feelings, it may be odd but I prefer peace) wanted to extend his house into yours. Would you just accept it and move away?
