Porker of the year.

The results are in! Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is the “winner” of CAGW’s online poll for 2018 Porker of the Year, garnering 38 percent of the v**e in a five-way race.

Sen. Harris earned this dubious award for proposing a bill that would create a new taxpayer-funded rent subsidy.

On July 19, 2018, Sen. Harris introduced S. 3250, the so-called Rent Relief Act, which would create a new refundable tax credit for rent payments greater than 30 percent of an individual’s gross income of $100,000 or less. Conservative estimates put the price of the subsidy at $76 billion per year.

The bill would also not impact the true drivers of the high cost of housing. On the contrary, renters would be incentivized to rent the most expensive properties, and landlords would be able to spike rents with no downside since taxpayers would be paying for the rent increase.

CAGW’s 2018 Porker of the Year silver medal winner with 27 percent of the v**e is House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Rep Hoyer was named CAGW’s October 2018 Porker of the Month for supporting the resurrection of wasteful and corrupt pork-barrel earmarks under the new House Democratic majority.

The other 2018 Porker of the Year nominees, in order of v**es received, were: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) (17 percent); Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) (13 percent); and Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) (4 percent).

Our thanks to the many CAGW members and supporters who took the time to participate in this poll. We appreciate you casting your v**e!
