I was helping my daughter with her yard sale yesterday here in Phoenix, Az.. There was a slow period and we and our husbands were sitting around visiting. We notice a Hispanic man walking down the street putting notices on people's doors. When the man came to my daughters house he handed the flyer to my daughter and left to finish the other houses. My daughter noticed the flyer was in spainish and called "hey, I can't read this". The man was close enough to hear her and returned saying " you people really need to speak and read spainish". I instantly started yelling as this angered me!! I yelled" this is America, we speak English here. Your people need to learn it"". He laughed and said "you will be if you want to get by here"" and then walked away laughing. I confess that was when I started yelling obscenities at him!!! Your thoughts.

I was born and raised in a small town called Miami Florida, then the Cubans started coming in, the high class ones were here for generations, then Mariel, Castro dumped all of his criminal class here! He is still doing it! Miami is now Nuevo Habana! Cuban spoken here! I got married in Sweetwater, a very small town off Calle ocho (SW 8th street, Tamiami Trail) now it is ALL CUBAN, the OFFICAL langauge is CUBAN! But now the Haitians are being brought in, starting with 250,000, out breeding the Cubans! (Average 15 births, but only 5 lived in Haiti, now all!) the Cubans are moving north and west! The Jews moved North! WE brought the f**g and moved west! But the government has most of Fla, except the coastal areas! I learned to speak Spanish a long time ago, now the Mexican dialect! But I found a part of the old America, and will move north too, as soon as the government steals my land again!

This is America. People can speak, write, and make flyers in wh**ever language they like. There is no constitutional requirement to use any particular language. Living in California, I routinely hear people communicating in all kinds of different languages. Most residents of this state don't bat an eye at such things. It's just a normal everyday fact of life. In my local park, you can routinely hear people speaking Spanish, Russian, Arabic, English, and various Asian languages as well as English.

No big deal.

I agree this is america and you can speak wh**ever you like but, english is our only official language and second it is a leagal requirement to imagrate here that you speak fluant english before you are granted citizenship. However like so many laws we pay in taxes to create and enforce, it is no longer enforced but it is a law.
Do i think everyone should speak english here? Yes i do until WE THE PEOPLE as a society choose to add another languge to OUR country.

There is never going to be a national referendum of what are proper languages to speak. California is now pretty much a bilingual entity, much like Canada and Belgium. The children here really don't care. They have friends of all different backgrounds. They also grow up, date, and marry people of all different backgrounds. This is not your father's America which is OK with quite a few of us.

"No Big Deal" let's speak.............. Spanish?????
WTF'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
I find it d********g to call a telephone number and have to press 1 to proceed in English. It seems to me that our national language should routinely be used and callers wishing an alternative should be the ones to select a number. I like the sentiment of President Teddy Roosevelt, who believed, "We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language." But today that's not """politically correct""". God I h**e that term. All it really means is "politically liberal". It is the model of current official political thinking.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a Federal agency, has determined that it is illegal for an employer in the United States of America to require employees to speak in English while working. . . this means that thousands of small businesses across America has to hire a lawyer — to show there is some special reason to justify requiring their employees to speak our country's common language on the job. I believe this is a gross distortion of the Civil Rights Act, and it is a complete misunderstanding of what it means to be an American."
An amendment was offered in the Senate Appropriations Committee, it is an amendment to make clear that it is not against the Federal law for an employer to require an employee to speak English on the job. The then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), caved. She was pressured by Hispanic Democrats in the House, and held up the entire commerce, justice, and science appropriation bill so the amendment wouldn't pass. Ms. Pelosi will never be mistaken for a profile of patriotism or courage.

The liberal democrats once again demonstrating "hope"lessness & "change"for-nothing.

If you travel to Canada, you will signs posted everywhere in both English and French. If you go to Belgium, you will see signs posted in Dutch and French. If you come to California, you will signs everywhere in English and Spanish. Most of the big city names are only in Spanish, because we used to be part of Mexico. Funny thing about that.........

You might try making peace with your multi-cultural nation. This is life in America. There is nothing you and your rapidly decreasing fellow "provincials" can do about it except whine and moan and give yourselves high blood pressure......as well as outing yourselves as "know-nothing", xenophobic buffoons.

Benjamin Franklin said it best. "It should only take one generation of kids who play with, go to school with, date, work with, ect...... to speak and read English."

But sadly that does not always happen. There are many, mostly Mexicans, who do not respect this great country and refuse to learn our Founding Fathers native language. Tradition, that's American tradition, does not mean anything to them. They want to change our great country to their worthless country.

Difintion of "i*****l a***n"...
illegal= against the law. Criminal.
alien= Owing political allegiance to another country or government; foreign: alien residents.
