He disclosed his most recent 2 years of tax returns and summarized previous years. It's possible the Obama campaign would have demonized Romney's use of legal use of legal loopholes and Romney's campaign feared this. I do know one thing. In his latest disclosed return, it showed 30 percent or so of his income for charity. That's quite a stretch from "paying no taxes". That level of charity says a lot about Romney.

Romney gave most of that charity to the Mormon church. Tithing is required by the church.

Perhaps more significantly, Romney on Friday also released a summary of his tax returns over a 20-year period, covering the years from 1990 to 2009. That summary, which was done by PricewaterhouseCoopers, says that in each of the last 20 years he owed both federal and state income taxes.
