Proud...proud of what, a moron little kid mentality, a hostage thug mentality?

The budget has a hundred things in it, many of which are far more important than the symbolic wall. Dems (and republicans) want to hammer out a budget, and I'm sure not wanting the damage done to the economy by shutting government down is the highest priority of all.

And you are proud of the president for holding a shutdown hostage over one single issue?

The president has one thing wrong, and perhaps i***ts think like this, but people with brains do not...Dems will not be hammered by a shutdown, it is not their fault if they refuse to bend to hostage taking the way the GOP has done this before over healthcare.

In case the president and his dimmest followers haven't noticed the shape the stock market is in, that the economy is not in the greatest shape since Trump took office, the stock market is prone to a serious crash right now, even talking about a shutdown the way Trump is glitches the market and has serious consequences...

Add to that the fact that a government shutdown costs a lot of money, it forces overtime rates to serve critical functions, and the people laid off end up getting compensated even though the work can't be replaced, it's gone and we end up paying for it anyway. A shutdown done like Trump is threatening is as symbolic as the wall.

Hmmm...giving a win to the president...where did we first hear of such a thing? Oh yeah, McConnell when Obama took office, we do not want to give this president anything that makes him look good. I read that as being very much against doing anything good for the country if Obama wanted to do anything good.

Trump's temper tantrum has more to do with his fear of losing his base. He's already lost the part about Mexico will pay for the big beautiful wall. Most Americans agree border security is a top priority but are against paying for an unnecessary 2,000 mile wall. Trump is more afraid of losing face than he is of terrorists storming our southern border. He needs a time-out.

Maybe in your household. According to Gallup, Trump's overall term average to date is 39%. I guess that makes up his base. It seems pretty high for a totally incompetent leader.

I guess you missed the part where Pelosi was asking that the senate start the process of working out a deal. The deal can be done and leave the wall as the point of contention, but at least the rest is done so we can see who's h*****g this up and over what. My guess is dems would allow another billion or so more be budgeted...and government doesn't get shut down over the wall.

Proud...proud of what, a moron little kid mentalit... (show quote)
Every Friday afternoon around 6pm, the government shuts down and only essential personnel remain on the job. Everybody comes back to work on Monday morning.

Border security is not "symbolic", it is vital to the sovereignty, the welfare and safety of a nation and its citizens.

When the government shuts down due to a budgetary conflict, the discretionary budget funds most federal departments. But those that provide essential services are not shut down. Essential services are those that include defense, national safety, and security. Many of these agencies are set up so they can operate for weeks without a funding bill.

Border Protection and Immigration, air traffic controls, and the T***sportation Security Administration remain open. The Justice Department remains open, but gun permits will not be issued during the shutdown. The Postal Service has a separate source of funds, so mail continues to be delivered.

There have been 18 government shutdowns since 1976,

2013 (President Barack Obama): Oct. 1 to Oct. 17 - 16 days
1995-1996 (President Bill Clinton): December 5, 1995, to J****** 6, 1996, - 21 days
1995 (President Bill Clinton): Nov. 13 to 19 - 5 days
1990 (President George H.W. Bush): October 5 to 9 - 3 days
1987 (President Ronald Reagan): December 18 to December 20 - 1 day
1986 (President Ronald Reagan): October 16 to October 18 - 1 day
1984 (President Ronald Reagan): October 3 to October 5 - 1 day
1984 (President Ronald Reagan): September 30 to October 3 - 2 days
1983 (President Ronald Reagan): November 10 to November 14 - 3 days
1982 (President Ronald Reagan): December 17 to December 21 - 3 days
1982 (President Ronald Reagan): September 30 to October 2 - 1 day
1981 (President Ronald Reagan): November 20 to November 23 - 2 days
1979 (President Jimmy Carter): September 30 to October 12 - 11 days
1978 (President Jimmy Carter): September 30 to October 18 18 days
1977 (President Jimmy Carter): November 30 to December 9 - 8 days
1977 (President Jimmy Carter): October 31 to November 9 - 8 days
1977 (President Jimmy Carter): September 30 to October 13 - 12 days
1976 (President Gerald Ford): September 30 to October 11 - 10 days

Under democrat presidents, the government shutdown a total of 99 days.
Under republicans, the government shutdown a total of 27 days.

The sky did not fall, the world did not end, and we are still here.

Build the wall, secure the borders, stop this monstrous drain on our economy and the destruction of our society. End this insanity. Wh**ever it takes.
