Pearl Harbor came as no "surprise" to instigator Stimson -- a hero of Evan Thomas.

HENRY STIMSON'S CONFESSION!
"We face the delicate question of the diplomatic fencing to be done so as to be sure Japan is put into the wrong and makes the first bad move. … The question was how we should maneuver them into the position of firing the first shot."
***
"When the news first came that Japan had attacked us my first feeling was of relief that … a crisis had come in a way which would unite all our people. This continued to be my dominant feeling in spite of the news of catastrophes which quickly developed."
.

from Henry Stimpson's diary, in Yale university

. Ten days before the Attack on Pearl Harbor, Stimson entered in his diary the following statement: [Roosevelt] brought up the event that we are likely to be attacked perhaps next Monday, for the Japanese are notorious for making an attack without warning, and the question was what we should do. The question was how we should maneuver them into the position of firing the first shot without allowing too much danger to ourselves.

Pearl Harbor came as no "surprise" to in... (show quote)

And Washington had s***es, and Jefferson was a Deist, and every founding father had warts, and etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, and even Moses tied his ass to a tree and walked for 20 miles making him the first rubber man. I remember well taking a course on C*******t propaganda and agenda 55 years ago, 1963, that someday when the founding fathers are systematically diminished as nothing but aristocratic s***e holders, or they possessed only selfish self interests, etc, etc, etc, and this is taught in schools to diminish their remarkable achievement and when history is rewritten, always putting America in a bad light, to understand what is behind it! I do! And every public school in America teaches the new history but you'll never read any of Washington's prayers in the new history books like we did in the old. And we lusted for war now with Japan while we're fighting already in Europe.

I'm going to guess this is a response you neither expected nor deserved. It is one of my hot buttons.
