It is fair to point out that the Thessalonians were at a disadvantage compared to Christians today. They did not have all the written books of New Testament Scripture. Paul wrote both of his epistles to Thessalonica very early in the New Testament era—about A.D. 51. The two letters were probably written only a few months apart and are among the very earliest of all the New Testament writings.

The Thessalonians’ primary source of authoritative gospel truth was Paul’s teaching. As an apostle, Paul taught with absolute authority. When he taught them, his message was the Word of God, and he commended them for recognizing that: “For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Elsewhere he said that the commandments he gave them were “by the authority of the Lord Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 4:2).

The substance of what he taught them represented the same body of truth that is available to us in the New Testament. How do we know? Paul himself said so. Even as he was recording his inspired epistle to them, he reminded them, “Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?” (2 Thessalonians 2:5). The written Word simply confirmed and recorded for all time the authoritative truth he had already taught them in person. These epistles were a written reminder of what they had already heard from Paul’s own mouth (1 Thessalonians 4:2).

Second Thessalonians 2:15 confirms this: “Stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.” There he declares, first of all, that his epistles to them are authoritative, inspired truth. This verse is a clear statement that Paul himself regarded these epistles as inspired Scripture.

But notice also that this verse joins the apostolic “traditions” with the written Word of God. The “traditions” necessary for Christians to be discerning are recorded for all ages in the text of Scripture. Those who claim that apostolic tradition is other truth in addition to Scripture often attempt to use this verse for support. Note, however, that Paul is not saying that “the traditions [they] were taught” are different from the written Scriptures. Rather, he links the two, affirming that the written Word of God is the only permanent and authoritative record of the apostolic tradition. He is specifically suggesting that the Thessalonians should not trust “word of mouth” or letters pretending to be from apostolic sources. Only what they had heard firsthand from Paul’s own lips or read in authentic letters from him were they to treat as authoritative, divine truth. That is why Paul usually signed his epistles “with [his] own hand” (1 Corinthians 16:21; Galatians 6:11; Colossians 4:18; 2 Thessalonians 3:17; Philemon 19).

With this in mind, 2 Thessalonians 2:15 cannot be used to support the claim that extrabiblical, spiritually binding “apostolic tradition” is passed down verbally through popes and bishops. Paul’s whole point was that the Thessalonians should treat as authoritative only what they had heard from his own mouth or received from his own pen. That body of truth—the Word of God—was to be the measuring stick they used to examine all things. Two other verses confirm this. In 2 Thessalonians 3:6 Paul writes, “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us.” And in verse 14 he adds, “If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame.”

Therefore, Paul is affirming that the Bible is the only reliable criterion by which believers in this age can evaluate messages claiming to be truth from God.

The testing of truth that Paul calls for is not merely an academic exercise.

Rose42, you seemed not to get it. Here again you are trying to compare your Sola Scriptura Scriptures with the Holy Bible of the Catholic Church.

The Scriptures at Sola are correct. However here are the problems of the Sola Scriptura where you took those Scriptures.
1. Sola Scriptura was copied 500 years ago from Christ's Holy Bible.
2. Sola Scriptura is not a complete Gospel of Christ.
3. Sola Scriptura where you got all those Scriptures lack history of 1500 years.
4. Sola Scriptura is not allowed by Christ to be the source of teaching, or interpreting the Bible.
5. Sola Scriptura is not authorized by Christ and therefore teaching and preaching the contents of it is unlawful.
6. Sola Scriptura does not have Sacred Traditions
7. Sola Scriptura does not have "Didache" taught by the 12 Apostles.
8. Sola Scriptura lacks 7 books in the Bible.

Here is the Catholic Bible.
1. It was created 1,987 years ago.
2. It originated from Christ when he said this :Matthew 16:18
3. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
4. Catholic Bible was authorized by Christ to keep, to preach, to teach, and to continue.
5. The Catholic Church has the Sacred Traditions, the Scriptures, and the Magisterium.
6. The Magisterium is a teaching arm for the Catholic Church to follow like teaching the Catechism of the Church.
7. The Catholic Church has the Didache taught by the Apostles.
8; Saint Peter, the 1st Pope built the Church in Rome.

There is NO way that the Catholic Church and the Sola Scriptura would RECONCILE.
So, please don't even compare your Sola Scriptura Bible with the Catholic Church Bible.
Doing that is plain ignorance.

So Radiance3 I went to my bible and tried to determine some things and I had some difficulties with your statements. So I looked up the book of Romans. I was expecting to see that Paul wrote to the Raman Catholic Church that was in Rome but I didn't find that instead I found this 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Then I looked up Corinthians figuring it surely would be there about Paul writing to the Roman Catholic Church in Corinth but again I was disappointed. Paul was writing this 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

I then went to Galatians to see if Paul was writing to the Roman Catholic Church in Galatia. But instead I found this 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

I continued on and didn't find one time that Paul wrote to any Roman Catholic Churches at all. So how is it that the Roman Catholic Church can claim ownership to all of the new testament again? And what about the Eastern Orthodox Church and Greek Orthodox Church are they also using Sola Scriptura illegally or do they pay a royalty to the Roman Catholic Church for the use of their scriptures? I am really curious as how all that works out just who has the Roman Catholic Church issued licenses to to use their scriptures? Surely they must have a record somewhere as to who is authorized and who is not. Where can I find that record from the Roman Catholic Church is it available to everyone or just to the Roman Catholic Pope and Priest and Cardinals.

Good grief Radiance for the umpteenth time THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "SOLA SCRIPTURA BIBLE" If you want to debate then at least do everyone the courtesy of using terms correctly. The Catholic church in their rebuttals even use the term correctly.

The Bible was not copied from the Catholic version. History proves it. They used original documents which are not "Catholic" but catholic. Two different things.

Yet again you have failed to refute anything with scripture.

Rose 42, your stolen Scriptures now hidden in your Sola Scriptura created 500 years ago by Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli don't belong to them. They were stolen from the Gospel of Christ that He endowed to Saint Peter to continue thru His Catholic Church. All those Sola Scriptures were selectively stolen from the true Gospel of Christ.

Now, you want to take over and pretend your Sola Scriptura is above and beyond the Gospel of Christ. Believing on all those make all of your Protestants thieves and blasphemous creating an abominations against the Gospel of Christ. You are trying to replace Saint Peter with Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli. How blasphemous could that be?

You become all thieves, and don't have any shame, ethics, and manners claiming all your stolen Scriptures from the true Gospel of Christ, His Church, the Catholic Church of God.

The worst part of it is all those Scriptures you've stolen are now part of the inventory of the Words of God being sold to the world for lucrative sums of money.
Shame on all of you! The work of Satan!

They were all the stolen Scriptures of your Sola Scriptura. Stolen by Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli 500 years ago, from the 2000 year old Church of Christ, the Catholic Church.

Note: You Protestants created a new definition of a lower and upper case of "Catholic", a letter in order to create a new meaning to justify your changes; an attempt to take over the Church of God.

Well the intentions of Christ does not represent your malicious intentions to take over God's Gospel. What ever you do, all of you still remain OUTCASTS!

How else will you say that? All of you condone thievery of the Scriptures from the Gospel of Christ. Then you wanted to put them on top to make them the official Scriptures and not the Catholic Church where you stole all of them from.

You behave like the MSM's, ANTIFA, BLM, and Socialists, and Leftists trying to destroy the history of this country be fabricating lies and reversing the facts written since the creation of this country. Destroying the statues, and replacing the constitution, with Political Correctness of Obama.

That is what you have been doing. You are putting the Sola Scriptura above Christ Gospel where Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli stole 500 years ago, the selective Scriptures and claim as their own.

Now you Protestants made it even worst by creating a new business venture using words of God as a lucrative source of revenue with 47,000 interpretations by the 47,000 Pastors.

No shame, due to your greed of money. Now God will decide the punishments for that. Your bottom line is about money, not God.

You are all OUTCASTS from the family of God.
