Don't denigrate a good man. That's all I'm saying. Tom may not be a conservative, but he's a good man, and he ain't taking nothing he hasn't paid for his whole life with a government promise that he'd get it back.

I ant makin fun. Tom is a good guy. But am I in bad taste fir poking his politics? Archie, I would never address u as nothing but a friend.

Good job, I figured there had to be a reason. My first wife and I raised her sister's boy from a little under 3 years old until he was about 12 when she was in a better space to raise him herself. She lived with us for a few years too.

Sometimes life doesn't give us a choice. We have a Boy almost 16 and a little girl we have raised from birth almost 6 now.

Well a few weeks back I got a letter telling me to get on medicare. I didn't know what to do so I went down to the social security office. I was pleasantly surprised. I'll get my first payment on my birthday in February. Heck since I have 2 dependant children and a wife I'll get $255 a month for each of them plus I'll be able to keep working. I had no idea how good my country was going to do by me. I thank all of our past leaders that made it so I don't have to worry about being older. This is truly a great country for doing that. People gripe about socialism and politicians want to take away the safety net.---They are way off in there thinking and there is no way I will give up what my country has done for me. I have worked hard all of my life and it has paid off. I hear the trade war has left crops rotting in the fields yet people want to cut off food stamps for the poor. It is a sin to begrudge people simple food. We are supposed to be a Christian nation. The politicians who want to do away with social security and food stamps will not get my v**e. Keep America great and V**e against those who would do harm to our society and bring crushing poverty to the workers and elderly.

Search out cities who no longer allow anyone and especially Christians to run a soup kitchen for the poor, or little kids to sell lemonade, or to have a garden in your own back or front yard. The results might surprise you.

I have heard of this. I live in a small town and I am glad I do. We have a soup kitchen and our churches frequently serve free meals. Anybody who wants can grow a garden and kids still sell lemonade. I am just lucky I guess. I see you are from San Antonio. May I compliment your beautiful city. I went to basic training there and I was very impressed with the sights there.

Thanks, it's grown a lot since I first saw it in 74 at Lackland. 410 wasn't crowded then and 1604 had no traffic lights. Now both are crowded and have too many traffic lights. We need another Loop, ha.

Thank you Archie. I love my country and my fellow Americans. I was really happy with what the social security department told me. Heck I thought I would only get paid for myself and I even got more there than I thought I would. You can bet my v**es in the future will be for making sure you and all others coming of age will have the security they deserve for all the hard work They did keeping the wheels of this country going. That's everybody from a janitor to a doctor. God Bless America and Texas too.

I appreciate that, Tom. I've always v**ed that way. SS, and Medicare are involuntarily deducted from every working Amarican's paycheck, and the self employed pay even more into it. I've been paying into them since the age of fourteen, and I'll be 55 in a month. I don't have the information to calculate it, but I'm betting it's a chunk of change that could be a lot more if properly invested. I consider it money owed to me by the government, and I honestly believe that I will never see any of it because the politicos on both teams won't control their spending.
It kinda gives me the red ass just thinking about it.
I'm happy to hear that you're getting your savings back from them. You worked for it, you earned it, and they owe it to you.

We have to make sure that the government never borrows from social security again. Any congressman who wants to should be v**ed out of office. Ten years from now you'll get the same letter I got. I wish you the best on the return you should get. I have always been skeptical of the stock market but real estate seems to always go up.

As I rmember the Alamo had a gravel parking lot and you could walk and see most of the sights. I loved the Alligator farm and the river walk.

Those days are gone for the most part. Only elbow room along the River Walk. I enjoyed the steaks and nickel beer at the Buckhorn Saloon if and when I went downtown. The Chinese Sunken Gardens are flowerless and dried up last time I checked. This place just took off and changed overnight. Lost a lot of its innocence and small-town character. It used to be cowboys, military, and senoritas. Now it's just new subdivisions every few months and more overpasses. The airport is way inside the city limits now.

Last time I was there, other than passing through, was 1981 on my first honeymoon. The Alamo looked like the Alamo, and I got my new wife mad at me by getting hammered in the Buckhorn Saloon. The Riverwalk was a blast, and we really enjoyed seeing some of the old Spanish missions in the area.
The fan clutch on our car went out while we were there, and we stopped at what we used to call a service station to have it checked out. Since we were just kids with Just Married all over the car, they fixed it for the price of the part.
I also remember sitting at a red light, and some guy across the way yelling "You'll be sorry!" Because of the stuff on the car.
Boy, was he ever right!!

That's all very interesting, but what curious minds want to know Arch, is how many honeymoons have you had? I'm guessing two and that Liz Taylor and Za Za Gabor are still ahead of you.

Yep. I've only had two, and the second one is still ongoing after 23 years!

And that guy at the intersection in San Antonio must have been some kind of pshycic. He was right!

Naw, he just had a 50/50 chance of being right. It just takes one to ruin a marriage.

You may not know this, but, in drawing SS, the janitor is likely to receive more than the doctor, assuming the doctor was smart enough to invest in a private retirement program during his working years.. so, though the doctor's monthly payments to SS/Medicare would have been at least triple those of the janitor, when it comes time to receive SS, he will be penalized big time for also having a private retirement fund. If he is like me, he will get less than $400 from SS, out if which is deducted his mandatory medicare payments. Doesn't seem really fair, does it?
