Rachel Maddow made a compelling argument that Trump seems even more chaotic and wobbly because he knows that Democrats won the e******n and the bill for years of corruption is about to come due.
Maddow said:

The White House, the Trump administration more broadly appears to be in a kind of rattly phase. They appear to be in an even more chaotic state than usual there have been ethics troubles in this administration from the very beginning. Some of today’s wobbles appear to be the inevitable product of investigatory pressure on ethically challenged high-ranking individuals including those who are either facing investigation or flat-out indictment in the case of this EPA official. So some of it I think is driven by the way ethics scandals tend to end up, which is not good for the ethically challenged official. A lot of this, though, appears to be driven by the political pressure that the White House is newly under in the wake of last week’s e******ns results. Tonight marks one week since the polls closed in the midterms. The scale of the Democratic Party’s victory in last week’s e******n is still coming into focus one week later as v**e tallies get certified and recounts get fought over.
So there is a lot going on right now in the news there is a lot of pressure on this white house in this administration. And from everything we have seen thus far, this is a president who does not handle pressure particularly well. To the extent that his political fortunes and his legal jeopardy are tied up into one great double helix of a story right now, the president’s firing of Jeff Sessions in the immediate aftermath of last week’s e******ns, his effort to put in charge of federal law enforcement in the entire U.S. Justice department a random loyalist who was never approved by the Senate I think ultimately this may be seen when we look back on it someday as the president’s big hail mary pass at this point in his term in office.

You may be right there, but anyone could make the case that Trump is not in very good shape.

Watching TV all morning is called "executive time", he's being reported now as taking something else, "policy time", which seems to be a total flakeout

His popularity is waning, he's facing a perception that he's screwing up everything, there is very little for him to keep claiming is huge successes. Those around him are running dry when he says "give me something good", there isn't anything.

I would normally feel sorry for someone who has it crumbling around him like this, but not this imbecile.

Perceptions are tricky; you have arrived at the conclusion that everyone else's are the same as yours. Trump is doing fine. He has higher approval ratings than Obama at this point in his presidency. The GOP midterm losses were half what Obama's were in his first term, and considerably fewer than either Bush "W" or Clinton.
Our economic growth is now at a level that your Democratic heroes said was a thing of the past. The black unemployment that doubled under Obama has greatly improved. We are no longer paying Iran to plot our destruction and finance acts of terror against our citizens. We have withdrawn from the Paris accords (we were the only ones who paid any attention to them anyway).
Umemployment is down, GNP is up. Our military is being rebuilt. We are opting out of trade deals which did us little or no good, and we are having the Federal Judiciary remade into a more Conservative, adhere-to-the-Constitution branch of government.
These are all things that Liberal Socialists h**e, because their mantra of more government doesn't sell when times are getting better.

Maddow and the rest of the "progressive" establishment are simply blinded by their "politics over logic" mindset.

"The e******n against Hillary" is a good example of that. Not an e******n in which the American people v**ed for the candidate they wanted to have serve as our next president, but the "e******n against Hillary."

That says it all.
