Are we made to fight each other

I love people, well most people. There are some that no matter how I approach them, they will argue about everything. If I say the sky is blue, they say it is not. If I should say the world is round, even though they know better, they will say it is not.... This makes me wonder, are people prewired to fight? I think that our minds are pre-wired to believe that we are doing or saying the correct thing. People are born to think that they are right in wh**ever they choose to say or do. This tendency is colloquially termed as “p***e.” Obviously though, we are not always right about everything and there will always be one who contends our thesis. Naturally, p***e takes over and prevents us from admitting that we have been mistaken, even if we realize that we really are. As a result, a conflict arises among these two individuals who have different beliefs and thoughts about a subject but wherein both cannot accept that the other one is correct. Even on OPP, no one will give an inch; no one wants to admit that their view may be flawed.

From the responses thus far, it does seem as if we are if not pre-wired at least trained to fight each other. Even as young as 13, I was fascinated at the quick and easy formation by people into "us and them." Those who sat in front of the classroom against those in the back, and vice versa. Eastsiders from Westsiders, North against south and on and on ad infinitum from the grand to the most trivial points. It seems not just natural but an ego imperative, and not just out of p***e but survival as well.

I have seen you admit that you were wrong and apologize, which is pretty daring at opp. I have seen many capitalize on someone's admitting to error. But I understand the reluctance outside of the risk to oneself: giving the opposing side fodder to crow or grow by opening a crack in the facade of of some issue. Like the saying goes, "Give an inch and they'll take a yard": that seems to be the reasoning or fear.

Another factor that may play into at least the failure to admit error and/or apologize is that many see the other side as evil or just not capable of being gracious and understanding. There may be that usual impulse of any decent person to admit their error and apologize but the "enemy" is not seen as worthy of such usual decency, having proved that in their mind over and over by the views those people or that person have aired. That's my take on the situation.

Another point, if I may. I don't know about g****l w*****g but it is quite plain that the prevailing climate at opp is heated. It seems if one is not being antagonistic, one is of little value. Showing venom for the other side appears but a ritual of passage and a sign of loyalty to that is right, good and just. Though I have written many times in support of some conservative views and spoken against some liberal posts, many here still call me libtard who has drunk the kool-aid and is a lock-step follower of the NWO. Rarely do I respond to the name calling and insults. If more people just stuck to answering the topic instead of making it about party affiliations and personalities, we might have a chance at real dialogue and perhaps resolve some burning issues to help this country. Just a thought.

I think liberal tummys will struggle with that. Lets have some nachos, and a beer, and work out another way. I have problems digesting liberals myself. So mayhaps we shouldn't be eating each other.
