A number of years ago, a young Marine PFC at the Barracks at Yorktown, VA, was standing post at the main gate of the Naval Weapons Station. The duty policy was to check 100% of all I.D. cards including military in uniform regardless of rank. A Navy sedan drove up to the gate with a young seaman at the wheel and a rear admiral sitting in the back. The young Marine PFC signaled for the car to stop, approached the driver, and asked to see both I.D. cards. The admiral told the Marine that he was on his way to meet with the station Commanding Officer and didn't have time for such nonsense.
...Admiral to driver: "Go ahead."
...PFC to driver: "Don't do that."
...Admiral to driver: "You heard me, drive on."
...PFC to Admiral as he draws his .45: "Sir, this is my first time on post. Do I shoot you or your driver?"
The admiral showed his I.D.

That was a reaction to proper training. He would have shot both if neccessary. Or I would have court martial him.

The rest of the story:
Said Admiral griped to the station Commanding Officer that said guard should be removed from his post.
The station Commanding Officer replied that he would see that appropriate action was taken.
The next morning said PFC became Sgt. of the Guard!

And the PFC deserved the promotion.

It seems that a lotta men who attain power
think that their own needs are needier than someone elses
that would apply to Marine Generals as well as to Navy Admirals
In fact ,the first time I heard this fable
It was a Navy Seaman first and a Marine General
As usual ,in your slinky way of posting on OPP
you just switched them
ya durn Marine

Real marines take their responsibilities very seriously. They are the presidents police force in and around the White House and Congress.

Still good STUFF !
My ex-military, especially Marines still carry .45 when they patrol the fence line. They claim it's for snakes. I think it's just from habit.
Now it's possibly true because they have k**led several rattlesnakes 6 feet long and as thick as a man's arm. Their skin makes nice belts. A couple even cook them.
Good thing is the snake population is getting smaller and smaller.
Too bad the human snakes don't get smaller and smaller in number.
