It's Columbus Day

Today is yet another Federal holiday, where Federal employees get to stay home and not work as opposed to going to work and not working. This one honors Christopher Columbus, the misnamed DISCOVERER of America. I heard a joke recommending that the day's name be changed to Democrat Day, given the similarities between that party and Chris.
Christopher Columbus, not unlike Democrats, took off with no clear notion of where he was going, had no idea where he was once he got there, took credit for someone else's work, and paid for the whole thing with someone else's money.
Not only did at least a million Indians beat him to the punch, but they also knew damn good and well they weren't in China or the East Indies.

Yet another federal holiday celebrated days from the original date of Columbus Day, October 12th. It has always seemed to me just efforts to accommodate civil servant's insatiable desire for more time off with 3-day weekends.

I H**E that they don't respect the actual dates anymore.
In my town, they once held the 4th of July celebrations in JUNE.
I***ts can't even celebrate the 4th of July right.

How about we forget about the inept Italian and have a national holiday on VETERANS DAY AS IT WAS BEFORE, on November 11, the day after that other glorious day that deserves a national day of respect. The birthday of the USMC.

Hell, I would rather see Audie Murphy's birthday as a National Holiday rather than Columbus Day. He isn't alone either, Gen Billy Mitchell, Claire Chenault, George Patton, Ike Eisenhower, etc come to mind. All a heck of a lot more important than Columbus.
Besides he was nowhere near first, try our Native Americans, Vikings, etc, and I would guess the Phoenicians even got here before Chrissy Boy. Wonder who got paid off to promote this bull. Who ever heard of an Italian or Spaniard named Columbus?
