09/12/2018 Science and Miracles: The Intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Some scientists might deny the possibility of a miracle because they mistakenly believe that miracles require the suspension of inviolable physical laws.

Though there is no reason why God – as a super-natural creative being—would not be able to suspend the laws of nature, it is not necessary to explain miracles this way.

C.S. Lewis put it quite succinctly:
In the classic Miracles, C.S. Lewis, the most important Christian writer of the 20th century, argues that a Christian must not only accept but rejoice in miracles as a testimony of the unique personal involvement of God in his creation.

“The divine art of miracle is not an art of suspending the pattern into which events conform but of feeding new events into that pattern.”

God does not need to suspend the laws of nature to make His extraordinary presence manifest—He need only add a trans-natural power to those occurring in nature.

The most remarkable and scientifically validated contemporary miracles have occurred through the Marian apparitions like that of Fatima and through the intercession of the Saints.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/retropolis/wp/2017/10/13/our-lady-of-fatima-the-virgin-mary-promised-three-kids-a-miracle-that-70000-gathered-to-see/?

These miracles are also done through the power of the Holy Spirit, but they have, as it were, a third agent – the Virgin Mary or a saint.

This “sharing” of power and glory by the Lord demonstrates that even though the Lord is center stage, He does not want to be the whole show.

But rather, in conformity with His unconditionally loving will, shares His healing power and glory with His beloved.

A good example of a scientifically validated miracle is one used in the process of the beatification of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.

This miracle took place on September 16, 2010 in Peoria, Illinois when James Fulton Engstrom – a newborn baby of Bonnie and Travis Engstrom – was found to be stillborn.
https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/03/a-miracle-in-peoria/284304/

During the delivery, James’ umbilical cord became knotted, cutting off blood, oxygen, and nutriment from the baby during the delivery process.

When he emerged, James was apparently stillborn.

Unlike healthy babies, he was pulseless, his arms and legs flopped to the sides and he was blue in color.

Since Bonnie Engstrom had decided on a home delivery, the midwife and others had to perform CPR on the baby in anticipation of an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

After 20 minutes, the ambulance arrived and took the lifeless child to the hospital.

Upon arriving, doctors again tried to revive him through resuscitation and epinephrine injections, but after 61 minutes, were about to declare him deceased.

Throughout the ordeal, his parents and some family friends prayed through the intercession of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen for the life of the child.

At the moment, the doctors were about to call the death of James, his heart started to beat for the first time.

At a normal heartbeat of 148 beats per minute.

This in itself was extraordinary because James moved from lifelessness to ordinary cardiac activity instantaneously.

However, this is only part of the story.

After 61 minutes of cardiac arrest and significant oxygen deprivation (except for the times during which CPR was administered), doctors expected James to suffer from massive organ failure.

When this did not occur, they predicted that he would be severely disabled, noting that he would probably have cerebral palsy, requiring him to be strapped to a wheelchair with feeding tubes for the rest of his life, and consigning him to blindness and virtually no mental activity.

Contrary to all expectations, James did not manifest any of these deficiencies or symptoms, but very clearly continued to develop like a normal child.

A seven-member panel of medical specialists assembled in Peoria (the place of the miracle) to examine all medical records associated with the case as well as James himself.

They concluded in March 2014 that James’ recovery and development could not be explained through any scientifically known natural causation.

Given the circumstances, he should have been either dead or severely disabled.

A panel of theologians was subsequently convened that rendered a decision attributing James’ restoration to health as a miracle occurring through the intercession of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.

09/12/2018 Science and Miracles: The Intercession ... (show quote)

Miracles are supernatural events. Science can only deal with the natural so how could science validate them?

PeterS,

Which begs to ask the Question PeterS,

How are these Supernatural events happening to Christians and not to other religious groups ?

It doesn't matter what religious groups they happen to--science can only prove that with lies in the natural world, not events created by the supernatural. Why is it you theists continually look to science for proof for that which is supposed to be accepted by faith? Have you none is that why you are turning to science?

Peter,

Peter I know my Faith and resolve in God.

"God is science" peterS, it is an intelligence design and not some random unexplainable thoughts as in beliefs yours mitigated thoughts.

Do you mean the belief in "one God" as the creator and ruler of the universe ? Without rejection of revelation (distinguished from deism).

The belief in the existence of a God or Gods (opposed to atheism)?

This can possibly be can be confused as an atheist deist theist belief ?

The origin of theism is first recorded in 1670–80 it is only a few hundred years old. And it it's belief is thought about presently.

"ism" and it's word origin is a "Suffix" appearing in loanwords from Greek, where it was used to form action nouns from verbs (baptism).

PeterS on this word model, is use's as a "productive suffix" in the formation of other nouns denoting action or practice, state or condition, principles, doctrines, a usage or characteristic, devotion or adherence, etc. (criticism; barbarism; Darwinism; despotism; plagiarism; realism; witticism; intellectualism).

You speak of faith, indicating a state or condition of paganism ?

Believe me when you read and hear of paganism's rituals an human sacrifice and practices you would turn over in your grave.

Christianity's design and beliefs are so much more than you can conceivably imagine.

PeterS, God is science, God is the Universe.

You only think as man does, that's why you're in this unimaginative conundrum, this Diest state of mind.

Your belief in the existence of a God, on the evidence of reason and nature only, with rejection of supernatural revelation (distinguished from theism).

It's your belief in a God, who created the world but you remained indifferent to it and God's design.

Which indicates your doctrine, your system, or body of principles and practices, like Leninism; spiritualism or nothing-ism.

PeterS is this your God's belief of deism.

The belief that God has created the universe but remains apart from it and permits his creation (that is you) to administer itself through natural laws.

Deism thus rejects the supernatural aspects of religion, such as belief in revelation in the Bible, and stresses the importance of some form of ethical conduct coming from the eighteenth century. Many numerous important thinkers held these such deist beliefs.

An example is The clockwork universe:

A Diest belief of an imaged the universe as a clock, wound up by God.

And is ticking along with its gears governed by the laws of physics.

This idea was very important in the early Enlightenment period for deist's, when science and scientists realized that Newton's laws of motion, including the law of universal gravitation, could explain the behavior of the solar system.

Peter you think so limited, as a deist or even thinks like an atheist person, and who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings or the term God.
