Avenatti Falls Apart on Air When Even the Hosts of ‘The View’ Question His Story

Reporting on political commentary would certainly be a lot less colorful if we didn’t have “The View” to spice things up from the left.

However, it’s a sad day in liberal politics when a fellow liberal goes on a friendly venue to get support for his latest allegations and cannot even get the ladies there to jump on the bandwagon.

In this case, we are talking about attorney Michael Avenatti and accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by an Avenatti client identified as Julie Swetnick.

Swetnick has, through Avanatti, signed a declaration saying Kavanaugh was party to additional sexual impropriety.

Avenatti took his act to “The View” by phone on Wednesday, no doubt expecting a sympathetic hearing, but found himself in trouble — breaking down really — when the ladies try to pin him down on details and facts. He just didn’t want to answer the questions.

The whole interview is below, but a crucial exchange starts about the 1:50 mark. Avenatti’s answer is a combination of dodges, references to the document, and an awful lot of “uhs” that don’t inspire confidence — apparently not even in the liberal ladies of “The View.”

He sounds like a criminal defendant who knows his story is falling apart.

When co-host Sunny Hostin specifically asked if Swetnick personally was a recipient of abuse by Kavanaugh, Avanatti began to dance.
“Well, I think the allegations, Sunny, if you read further in the declaration, are far more specific, and, uh, relating to Brett Kavanaugh’s conduct towards women in general, including the attempts to , uh, drug, uh, women, by placing, uh, grain alcohol and/or drugs in basically the punch at these parties, that many of these women ended up gang-raped, unfortunately.

“I mean, the details in this declaration are specific; uh, they are shocking, uh, but above all else they are true, and my client stands behind them 100 percent and she’s looking forward to having an opportunity to meet with one or more FBI agents, hopefully, and describe what happened, and she’s also prepared to testify if she’s permitted to do so, to the U.S. Senate.

“But under no circumstances should Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed to the Supreme Court until these allegations and others are fully vetted, uh, and all of the facts and the t***h are known.

“You know, Brett Kavanaugh went on Fox a couple of days ago, and he stated that he wanted an opportunity to be heard. Well, he’s had an opportunity to be heard; he can certainly have an opportunity to be heard further by the FBI and others; I want my client to have an opportunity to be heard.

“I want Dr. Ford to have an opportunity to be heard, and I want the cooperating witnesses to have an opportunity to be heard.”

And near the end of the interview, when host Abby Huntsman, for the second time pressed for specifics he further failed to answer.

“Well, again, I’m going to stand on the exact language in the declaration. It’s laid out in detail in the declaration. There’s a reason why it’s laid out in the declaration and we’re not going to provide additional comment on that exact question until further, until the coming days, okay?”

The immediate effect of Avenatti’s media blitz on Wednesday, of course, was to make Avenatti an even bigger target for Republicans than he was already.

But it wasn’t just Republicans who were skeptical. And “The View” wasn’t the only left wing news outlet to fail to get a straight answer out of Avanatti.

BuzzFeed Deputy Director David Mack captured this piece of dialogue from Avenatti’s telephone interview with MSNBC’s Craig Melvin. (The interview can be seen here. The question quoted below comes about the 5:40 mark.)....

Just how long will the American people sit still for this charade?

It’s time for the Senate to v**e on Kavanaugh.

Further delay just invites more mischief from opportunists like Avanatti and ever-more-desperate Democrats.

Avenatti, the snake, looking for more opportunistic meals. Give him a dead rat to chew on.
