Biden Mocks Trump, Calls His Supporters ‘Dregs’

Former Vice President Joe Biden mocked President Donald Trump in a speech on Thursday, saying, “I’m clearly not as smart as Trump, the smartest man in the world.”
Then, during a speech on Saturday to the Human Rights Campaign, he called the president’s supporters “virulent” and “dregs.”
“Despite losing in the courts and in the court of public opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made,” he said at HRC’s annual dinner in Washington, DC. “This time they — not you — have an ally in the White House. They’re a small percentage of the American people, virulent people. Some of them the dregs of society.”
Biden sarcastically repeated what Trump has said in his various rallies during the speech Thursday at The Century Foundation.
“By the way, there’s no problems in America,” he said, according to USA Today. “Everybody’s doing well. Things are fair and decent and no one died in Puerto Rico.”
Biden referenced Trump’s previous remarks about last year’s hurricane in Puerto Rico. Trump suggested that the death toll was not accurate, and that it was another attempt by the Democrats to discredit him and his administration.
“This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico,” Trump tweeted Thursday. “If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!”
Biden is a 2020 Democratic p**********l hopeful, and told the crowd that he’s “looking ok” as a candidate compared to “the alternative,” meaning Trump.
Biden rejected Trump’s protectionist economic policies, saying they’re bad for the American worker.
“People being able to earn a fair minimum wage is the ultimate antidote to all of this foolishness that’s going on, with this phony populism and this naked nationalism that’s being promulgated,” he said, reported POLITICO. “When things are tough economically for people who work hard, there are sometimes charlatans that come along to try to find a reason for those people to blame wh**ever is happening to them on the other, on the immigrant, on that black man or woman.”
Biden did, however, admit the Democratic Party has not been ideologically aligned with middle class Americans.
He said Democrats in Washington D.C. ignored the “lack of the ability of the average worker to bargain for their wages.”
“In both parties, occasionally, we’ve been elitist and think if they’re high school-educated folks, they don’t really understand what’s going on,” Biden said. “But they understand. People are listening and they’re afraid. And when they are working one or two jobs and they’re still in trouble … they’re susceptible to demagoguery.”
