Trump's Trade War Just Took A Hidden Turn...The Chinese People, 400 Million Of Them Matter

There was something going on that we haven't really been aware of, but it actually was a big deal. Trump had an ally he may not have been aware of, the Chinese people. President Xi was in trouble, Chinese markets were down 25% from January, and Chinese currency was down 10% against the dollar. The Chinese people were blaming XI, and wanted him to work with the US to settle things in a fair way. So Xi was back to the table and Trump doubled down...

The Chinese now see Trump as too stupid to negotiate, and their patriotic p***e is kicking into high gear. Remember the power of the buy American we saw years ago? This is like that on steroids, 400 million people saying F*ck America, China is diligently forging new relationships with other countries to find alternate suppliers for the things they used to have no problem buying from the US.

This is going to alter the trade balance alright, by tens or hundreds of billions no longer going to China at all, never mind the taxes.

Good riddance to China.
I doubt anyone else has the technology that China would be interested in stealing.
This is about protecting our sovereignty as a nation. Now let's move on to protecting our borders.
MAGA. We have a lot of work to do.
Go Trump

China does not buy that much from the US, in fact the trade deficit has stayed around $375.6 billion for the past 8 years. We buy their junk that is made to break at the end of warranty so we buy the same thing again. It is time that we buy American made products. Too bad for China, but American made will again be preference over cheep and broken.

I think your right, basically Trump is trying to achieve a sovereign internal agenda by pushing globalisation with himself as the sovereign of the globe.

Maybe being full of yourself helps in politics as far as getting elected goes, but knowing your stuff is very important, I personally was supporting protectionism in the market place as a shop steward and as a student of economics at tertiary level, in the 1970's, I believe what Trump is doing won't work.

But that doesn't make a sovereign internal agenda wrong, although probably protectionist policy is permanently disfunctional now, for one thing, robotics are a must and that means economies of scale in manufacturing, China has everything needed for both robotics and economies of scale with or without the West let alone, - just without the US.

And when people talk about China stealing Tech secrets, you got to remember China has not signed the latest "Patent Law Treaty" (PLT) which came into force April 2005. Very few countries did sign up, the US did. This Agreemen is not anything to do trade related intellectual property rights.

China along with nearly every other country in the world did sign the " Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights" (TRIPS) which came into force January 1995, China signed in 2001 after being offered inducements.

So if you put your device out there China can copy and so can Japan and the Korean Republic and nearly every other country in the world, it's not stealing.

When I was tool making in the manufacture of plastic blowmoulds and injection moulds in general many of the moulds I made went to China that trade tapered off over the years which wasn't suprising.

Probably there is no answer to this problem.

So now you've made yourself qualified to speak for a very small portion of the Chinese people - only 400 million of them. I'd say you're a typical progressive more concerned with what other countries "feel"about you than how they treat America . I'd further say you might not have a great loyalty to America either. Are you, by chance, a criminal i*****l a***n? MAGA! Just out of idle curiosity what is China's current economy and how many of your so called "other (Chinese) markets" will not want to run away from America - the healthiest and greatest economy in the world? I apologize if I've overloaded you with too many considerations.

I worked in aerospace in the 90s, in order to get access to china's markets, we had to build some plants in china and teach them how to make the products. This was big business selling out the country.

I couldn't agree with you more. Some computer components of the F-35 are still produced in China. We've paid for China to build up her military against us and I'm afraid if we ever had to go to war with China we'd need to borrow the money from her first. (satire)
