Convenient Timing on the Kavanaugh Debacle by the Socialist Democrats

An interesting opine from Dan Flynn @ American Spectator.

Convenient Timing
From the people who brought you Tawana Brawley, the Duke lacrosse case, and Rolling Stone’s “A Rape on Campus” expose comes Christine Blasey Ford. And she rides into town at a convenient time for opponents of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who looked forward to a confirmation v**e later this week. Now he looks forward to his name d**gged through the muck, allegations about what he may or may not have done in high school, and losing his humanity by morphing into a symbol. He dreamed of becoming Anthony Kennedy. His opponents dream of making him Harvey Weinstein.

Activists sought to delay Kavanaugh’s hearings through disruption and claims Democrats did not receive sufficient time to review the nominee’s record. That hand did not win. This one will, at least in terms of delaying a v**e. In the Salem environment engulfing America, it also holds a chance, small but not insignificant, of derailing the nomination. The closer the v**e comes to November’s e******ns, Democrat thinking goes, the better the results of those e******ns for the party out of power.

This seems payback for Mitch McConnell’s successful gambit to k**l Merrick Garland’s nomination to the high court. McConnell won. But his chances of coming out ahead seemed a lot worse in real time than in retrospect. Hillary Clinton looked like she would win the presidency when McConnell refused to hold hearings for Garland. Had she won, as most expected, Clinton assuredly would have nominated a jurist more left-wing than Garland, who secured the nomination because President Obama regarded him as the most palatable choice for Republicans.

In other words, it could have been a disaster for Republicans. Similarly, this could become a disaster for Democrats. They could spike Kavanaugh and, after Republicans retain the Senate, see a judge with more discernably conservative tendencies win a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. Maybe Trump, wishing to avoid this war-on-women narrative, nominates Amy Coney Barrett.

Be careful what you wish for. Kavanaugh appeared as one of the more mainline, Washington, establishment names on Trump’s “list.” The president does not seem cut out of the “reward enemies, punish friends” mold from which past Republican presidents emerged, so the notion that Democrats get something more pleasing than Kavanaugh seems wishful thinking.

Tell Me About Your Childhood
The Kavanaugh hearings soon turn into a giant Rorschach test that tells Americans less about the little pixels we all look at on our screens and more about the people who judge what those dots mean. Absent any evidence presented under oath, partisans already issue judgments with certainty. The charges from a psychologist fittingly become one great social experiment in psychology.

A Usual Suspect Accuser
If Christine Blasey Ford supported the National Rifle Association in her checkbook, wore a Make America Great Again hat on social media, or worked as a small businesswoman, then her charges might win more believers. As it turns out, she works in academia, donated to the progressive group ActBlue, and signed the Physicians for Human Rights letter lambasting the Trump Administration’s immigration policies. She’s active in causes in opposition to Kavanaugh. Someone with her beliefs might not eng****r so much skepticism if accusing someone with similar beliefs of terrible deeds. But her aggressive involvement in politics makes her precisely the type of person to issue such allegations against Kavanaugh. It does not make the allegations untrue. It does make the charges ones to take with a grain of salt.

What a Tangled Web We Weave
To go from feigning that the Constitution contains a right to “privacy” to maintaining that the this “right” allegedly found in document’s penumbras conveys the right to an a******n to inventing a decades-old story about sexual assault does not seem like an inconsistent path. People who believe the ends justify the means by subverting democracy generally harbor no qualms about subverting the ninth commandment in the King James Bible.
