That state board decided they had too many historical figures for kids to learn so took out some. Helen Keller was another one in this last v**e. However, why should kids have to learn about a woman who has often been reportedly connecting to some strange "suicides". She has been connected to as many crimes as most mafia figures and it seems realistic to me to get her out of the books. Remember that Texas textbooks seem to have a lot to do with what other states do.
