Don't know how I managed the word "leave" instead of "live" in my post. However, and, not to absolve those people, if it was, indeed, deliberate neglect, I have since thought about this picture. We have an old twenty-nine-year-old horse that looks near as bad and he's still standing. It isn't from neglect, merely nature running its course. However, I've had horses that lived well into their thirties.

Like everything else, I suppose, it boils down to the lifespan of the particular individual.
