Politics is a dirty, sleazy business, and there are not many principled politicians that I respect. You assume that the two party system really gives the average v**er a choice, ... but does it? Look at what is happening in Washington right now. The Republicans have control of the Senate, the House, and the Presidency. For years, Republicans had campaigned on eliminating Obamacare. When their v**es did not count, they could muster a "NO" show v**e and said "elect us" and we will abolish Obamacare. Look what happened when they got into office.
Look at their feeble effort to reform "Healthcare". Do you really think that our elected officials do no know how to fix the problem? Of course they do. But the monied interests of the pharmaceutical, hospital, insurance, and medical groups have a vested interest in the status quo.
Bottom line, there is an entrenched bureaucracy with powerful people pulling strings behind the scene, and leaders of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party play to their tune.
I for one would like to see an end to the two party system, or at least the creation of a viable 3rd part, and eliminate all lobbyists and political contributions. Mandate free public debates. IMO, that would be an improvement over what we have now.

Yes I agree. FYI The politicians can be debased. Congress is supposed to have two legislative powers. Those are listed in Section 7. They are 1 Raise Revenue, 2 Do all the planning and decision making. Returning to this narrow list will debase politicians because Raising Revenue is TAXES, and no politician will make a decision, so their screaming would be heard around the world. They are not supposed to be in control of spending. This change would pull down their entire world.
