Are we to be "the city on a hill," the citadel of liberty, or not? The shining example of law, justice, liberty, and inclusion, a beacon of hope and courage for the world? Do we have to cover the Statue of Liberty until a later date, just not to giving a false hope? We were once "the great experiment," the nation of dreams that were possible: what are we now? Trump has perhaps ruined the image of our great nation forever. How in good conscientiousness can you deny his disgraceful and ugly behavior, his unhinged and mean-spirited and lying tweets that reflects so badly on who we are and denigrates the American spirit. Anyone who supports him supports the destruction of this Republic. No more freaking excuses. Our image and principles have been deeply tarnished by Trump. His character is our demise.

Sorry, you thoroughly missed the point. We have been a nation that wants to spread the word of liberty, to fight for it in the world, as our duty to our ideals and principles. The Marshall Plan helped our enemies and Europe to rebuild, making allies of our previous aggressors, and prospering the world economy. America First would not have done that!
