Extremely insulting to those of us who are of advanced years. In some cases, physical constraints concomitant with aging make the television or reading the only activity seniors can engage in on a daily basis. Fox news is like all other Television, unadulterated crap. However, I prefer to get it filtered through a conservative viewpoint such as Fox or One America News rather than the Jon Stewart School of journalism

In the last four weeks I have read, Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" and "The Old Regime and the Revolution." "The Life of Hon. William F. Cody Known as Buffalo Bill" autobiography, Andrew Carnegie's autobiography, G. K. Chesterton's "The Heretic" and am currently reading "An American Heritage History of The Civil War" by Bruce Catton. I have an extensive library of classics, which I have read or are waiting to be read. How many young people have the time, ability and desire to read and comprehend the masterworks of our civilization? Who gets a more distorted view of reality, those who read and ponder or those who are fed a constant diet of propaganda contrived to manipulate their every thought and action?

Many of my peers also do not rely on Television for our intellectual exercise and if you think shouts of joy or arm pumps are somehow related to senility, you need to watch the average sports fanatic when he is watching a football game.

Fox news set of talking heads do not impress me; it is obvious that no one can be so well informed with dates places and actions as the featured heroes and the obvious pathetic effort of the screeching l*****ts immediately tell you that this is contrived. Of course th other MSM never engage in this behavior. Your author must be dealing with very low mentality people if he believes that everyone over fifty is automatically fooled by Roger Ailes or the MSM contrived performances. What happens to all of the flaming l*****ts when they approached fifty? Do their brains suddenly turn to mush or is being a l*****t a panacea against the mind rot that you believe happens to Conservatives?

Extremely insulting to those of us who are of adva... (show quote)

First off, Pafret, I will be seventy on my next birthday...so, I include myself in the "those of us who are of advanced years.' Secondly, at about the same time, I posted another thread (https://www.onepoliticalplaza.com/t-140236-1.html#2557068) critical of MSNBC and its fans. Thirdly, I did not write the article. But, I felt...coming from a 14-yr. veteran contributor to FOX...that it confirmed many of the criticisms leveled at it. That, in an effort to be "fair & balanced," is what prompted me to post the MSNBC thread. Lastly, being of my advanced age (but, short of yours*), I have never thought of our brains turning to mush or mind rot...whether liberal or conservative in thought. And, I am not insulted by any perceived implication of advanced seniors as a monolithic ideological group, as I know better.

BTW, other than Chesterton's 'The Heretic,' none of the above books are unknown to me, as I became familiar with them decades ago...yet, could stand a refreshing in my remembrances of them. Good stuff, all of them...especially Catton's

*I seem to recall your being an octogenarian.

Nothing whatsoever, Bahmer. But, I was close to PM'ing you on Tiger's and Rory's drop-offs in performance in the second round. But, they both somewhat redeemed themselves during the third round. I will be watching the final round today.

It appears to be very wet today and may even get postponed until tomorrow. They have a week off between this tournament and the next one so if they played tomorrow instead of today it wouldn't be a skin off of anybodies prep time.

The latest I just heard on the broadcast is that the tournament may be called after 54 holes due to the weather forecast.

I heard earlier that they will try for this afternoon and if not then maybe tomorrow. They also did mention that they may have to call after today depending on the weather. The only problem is that those that are on the bubble could lose out and one of them on the bubble is Jordan Spieth. Sure h**e top see Texas removed from the Fed Ex Cup like that.

It looks as though they will try for tomorrow and that way it will give Jordan Spieth a chance to make it. He seems to have fallen off this year.

Have you read “A Gentleman in Moscow “? If not, you should add it to your list. i had all the classics and many many other books including the complete works of Shakespeare and Faulkner, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald. Katrina removed my home and all its contents. I am totally dependent on the local public library and Barnes and Noble now. But I keep reading and watch very little television news. Fox in the late evening. My brain is not turning to mush.

Carol, all of the classic books are available free on kindle from Amazon. Not my preferred mode of reading but I can carry a thousand books around in my pocket. I have ebook readers on my desktop and tablet as well so I usually have three books going at once. I like paper books but there is no way I can store what I have at my disposal.
