China has launched ahead of the United States with “several dozen successful hypersonic missile tests that Washington cannot ignore,” Missile Defense Agency commander Lieutenant General Samuel Greaves warned Tuesday.

“The Chinese have now done several dozen successful hypersonic (missile) tests… we just cannot (ignore),” Greaves briefed a group of government officials held by the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance.

Under Secretary of Defense for Management and Engineering Michael Griffin also acknowledged that China had alarmingly carried out dozens of successful hypersonic missile tests and warned that Russia was not far behind the Chinese in hypersonic missile development.

“Hypersonic missiles [are] being developed by both China and Russia. We are concerned about both … When they have done dozens of tests we have not done that is a concern,” he said.

In August, China allegedly showed one the tests via footage from a new missile test that would likely make a mockery of US missile defense systems in battle. The experimental “waverider” vehicle, China’s first, rides the shock waves generated during hypersonic flight. It could one day carry multiple nuclear warheads to North America undetected.

According to the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics (CAAA), an aerodynamic research institution in Beijing and part of the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the hypersonic missile test was conducted in northwestern China.

The CAAA released a statement last month, indicating the Starry Sky-2 missile was carried into space by a solid-propellant rocket before separating.

After separation, it descended to lower altitudes as it autonomously conducted extreme turning manoeuvers, reaching Mach 5.5 (hypersonic speeds) for more than 400 seconds, and reached a top speed of Mach 6, or 7,344km/h (4,563mph), the CAAA WeChat statement said.

The test was deemed a “complete success,” stated CAAA, which posted a series of behind the scenes images of the experiment on social media. “The Starry Sky-2 flight test project was strongly innovative and technically difficult, confronting a number of cutting-edge international technical challenges.”

Although the missile is still in development stage and probably a few years out from series production, waveriders could be used to carry conventional and or nuclear warheads undetected through the world’s most advanced anti-missile defense systems.

Last month was the first time China had officially confirmed its development of “waverider” technology, though it has been working on hypersonic glide vehicles since 2014. China, Russia, and the US are the main contenders in the hypersonic race and are engaged in what some see as a new arms race based on the technology.

Earlier this year, Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the US is extremely vulnerable to future attack by hypersonic missiles.

“The first, most important message I want to deliver today is that the forces under my command are fully ready to deter our adversaries and respond decisively, should deterrence ever fail. We are ready for all threats. No one should doubt this,” Gen. Hyten said in his opening statement.

However, in a follow-on conversation with Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, Hyten cautioned:

“we [US] don’t have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon [hypersonic missiles] against us.”

Admiral Harry Harris, former head of the US Pacific Command and now the ambassador to South Korea, said in February, “China’s hypersonic weapons development outpaces ours… we’re falling behind.”

To make up for lost time, the Pentagon awarded Lockheed Martin with approximately $1.5 billion in contracts this summer to develop a hypersonic missile for the Air Force.

While many believe American Hegemony is here to stay, there is a strong possibility that it could be somewhat displaced in the coming years as China gains access to hypersonic technologies.

America, China and Russia were all in a race to develop this technology. Missiles can be propelled at Mach 20 and they operate using lasers bombarding oxygen as their propellant so the do not have to carry rocket fuel for propulsion. They travel at such great speed, they cannot be detected by conventional radar making our radar, and the ability to launch a counterattack impossible This weapon’s race was on during the Obama Administration who chose to spend trillions on the “Greening of America” using the money for solar research, wind power, decommissioning coal fired plants, shutting down NASA, giving billions to Iran, authorizing billions of dollars on stupid grants like studying the “sex life of a tulip bulb,” planned parenthood, L**T rights, shared toilets, etc, etc.

Barack Obama and his surrogate Democrats failed to allocate appropriate funding to the Department of Defense “sitting idly by” while China focused on weapons development. With these weapons, the countries in Southeast Asia will likely surrender to the Chinese as the supreme world leader and the United States will have to take a back seat. Our ability to influence other nations will soon vanish as all countries bow to China.

America probably wishes they never saw the likes of “ Barack Obama, The Clinton’s, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and the DNC. These leaders put us behind the eight ball. American v**ers need to v**e for a candidates “character” and not on the premise that their candidate will be the “first black president” or the “ first female president”. Observing the way the Democratic Leadership has behaved over the last two terms of Barack’s presidency, I would have to declare that a v**e for a “democrat” is a v**e for the “death of our freedoms.”

Why isn't this story on national news outlets? Seems like we need to lift up our heads and look to see what's going on around us. Our squabbles between liberals and conservatives and our focus on internal problems won't mean much if we get bombed by China or Russia.

Obama and his cohorts largely ignored the weapons race. President Trump recognizes the threat and has increased defense spending for the first time in eight years with some of that money going into the development of hypersonic mission and rocket propulsion. He also is pouring money into the new “Space Force”, and has placed renewed emphasis on “NASA.” We are behind in the weapons race, but “Thank God” we elected a President who cares about his nation and the freedoms they embrace and is willing to put the money down to defend it.

Democrats will take a bribe for a “stupid grant program” to line their wallets, but not step up to v**e for a robust defense budget. Who you gonna v**e for in November?

My GOD!!! Why don't we spend another TRILLION on more useless weapons systems, tanks and fighter jets and make Northrop Gruman, Boeing, and Lockheed another $100 BILLION in profits at taxpayer expense. We need to immediately cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP to help fund them and make the elderly and poor "safe", starving and dying, but safe.

Better yet, why don't we just nuke the s**t out of the little slant eyed arseholes into oblivion?

The Chinese already own the US so why destroy it? The whole damn thing is insane money wasting bulls**t!

No let’s t***sfer the money from the grants for useless research, bridges to nowhere, planned parenthood a******n clinics , Dept of Education Revisionists that changed history books so our kids don’t even know the bill of rights or articles of the constitution. You won’t wake up until the Chicomms move into your home and boot your worthless butt out into the street.

Gee, cutting all those useless programs wouldn't be enough to buy a set of tires for an F-22 Raptor.

The $8 Trillion spent by Obama and his cohorts could have built a city on Jupiter. It’s a question of priorities! What did we get from the democrats, astronomical debt, high unemployment, record numbers of people on welfare, drug epidemics, healthcare debacle, high taxes, stagnant real estate market. If the government focused on the priorities, like national defense and stayed out of the private affairs of the American people, and wasting taxpayer monies on their follies and programs to reward their political donors with non-compete contracts so they could get campaign funding, bribes and kickbacks, there would be plenty of money for defense. You really need to swallow a heavy dose of reality! Obviously you never served in the military so why would anyone look to you for an answer to military expenditures as it relates to national defense.

There is one big fallacy to your argument...You fail to recognize that "wasting taxpayer monies on their follies and programs to reward their political donors with non-compete contracts so they could get campaign funding, bribes and kickbacks" is exactly what the military industrial corporations do.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/262742/countries-with-the-highest-military-spending/

The US spent over $600 BILLION (NOT COUNTING OVERSEAS CONTINGENCY PENDING of $65 BILLION) in military spending. How much of that is wasted, frauded, abused and used for programs to reward their political donors with non-compete contracts so they could get campaign funding, bribes and kickbacks"? And Trumpy has now increased that to over $700 BILLION? China spent $228 BILLION in comparison.

And the Pentagon and DoD have admitted they cannot account for $3 TRILLION of taxpayer money...You have swallowed a really stinky dose of bulls**t.

Your full of crap!

Let me explain:

When six men with guns are pointed at you and you have six men with six knives. who has control of the situation? When the six knives are replaced with six AK-47’s, who has control of the situation? When the men are replaced with missiles and one side has dumb missiles which can end up in cornfields and the other has smart missiles that can target a limo leaving a palace, who has control of the situation? If you have a complete arsenal of hypersonic missiles but their dumb and your competitor has a complete arsenal of smart hypersonic missiles deployed in mobile submarines, who has the competitive advantage?

Your point about the “cost of weapons” that are being developed should be reduced, despite the fact that they serve as force multipliers, weapons of deterrance is meaningless. We have gone eight years without increasing the budget for a new military arsenal.

I can’t argue the price of programs but can argue cost of freedom, it’s high! Apparently, you think you have the answer, “we’re spending too much!” What the hell do you know? Are you an accountant?

When the Chicomm’s remove you from your home and send you to a forced labor camp to work in a Chinese rice paddy, for one square meal a day, you will be a “happy liberal.” Maybe with your logic and negotiating sk**l, you will be able to talk to and encourage your captors to keep the local social security administration office open so they can send you your monthly check. Ask them to make that check out in Yuan, the Chinese currency so you can spend it at the local Tiki bar to drown out your misery. Perhaps we should just shutdown all military spending and channel those funds into the social security pot and increase your monthly check so you can go out and better enjoy all the freedoms this country has to offer, at least until it comes to an certain and abrupt end.

The liberal left have you “buffaloed!”

By the way, the missing $3 Trillion occurred under the Obama Administration. If it had been spent under the Trump for the past eight years, we wouldn’t be having to play catch-up. We would have all of our hypersonic rockets, missiles and field artillery in place and wouldn’t have to spend it under the current administration.

You just explained where almost half the $8 Trillion in defense expenditure occurred under Obama. He also left thousands of military tanks, trucks, humvees behind in Iraq which were collected by ISIS. He did little or nothing to modernize our weapon systems. As an accountant, please tell us all where the $8 Trillion dollars went!

Your not paranoid are you? Perhaps you have been brainwashed by the military industrial corporations and their puppet politicians that must constantly conjure up enemies of the US always on the verge of invading and destroying the US to justify obscene military spending of the US and its perpetual, illegal, unConstitutional, immoral warmongering.

War is a Racket!

As James Fallows pens in the Atlantic:

Steadily shaping China’s choices. Near the end of my conversations, I would ask each person, “What’s the best tool the United States could use to shift China’s behavior?” And each person would pause, and look out the window or take a sip of coffee, and then begin with something like “Well, it’s complicated, because …” The complication is that the U.S. and China have become so intertwined economically, and so constructively collaborative in a range of scientific, environmental, academic, and even diplomatic spheres, that almost any measure that would “punish” China would necessarily also damage the United States and much of the rest of the world. Simplest example: When Donald Trump was asked in October how the U.S. should respond to various Chinese excesses, he said that if “we cut off [the economic] relationship with China, China would go bust so fast.” Of course so would everyone else, given China’s integration into the U.S. manufacturing supply chains and its heavy investment in U.S. real-estate and financial markets. The reason the measures would backfire is not that China “controls” the United States, as many Americans fear. The problem is that the two economies are now part of one large whole.
