Unfortunately that does not take into account the mentality of the sports fanatic (fan). They will endure every kind of bad performance simply to participate in the cult of pro football. Back in the sixties I endured endless bull sessions around my work area about the performance of the Philadelphia Eagles who were "bums". Their coach, Joe Kuharich, had three out of four losing seasons and the chant "Joe must go" was heard everywhere. When I suggested to one of my co-workers that he should get rid of his season's tickets he looked at me as if I had suddenly grown two heads.
He said he had to wait a long time to get on the list for those tickets and the team might improve someday. If you understand that logic, you are a fan, worshiping at the alter of Porcus Ballus. You buy Totems of the Porculons, who play the game and you have their names and numbers emblazoned in expensive raised letters on the "official" team jerseys. You b***h endlessly about the erratic or bad performance of all concerned and you go out to the games to look for ritual sacrifice each weekend.
Their is no arguing with a man's religion, just k**l him, or vicariously, have your Porculons k**l his Porculons in the arena.
