Multiple former intelligence officials have said the dossier did not instigate the FBI’s investigation into Russia's e******n i**********e or provide a basis for the intelligence community assessment.

Trump's associates have sought to write off the investigation as a "h**x" and a "witch hunt" since its beginning. The probe so far has resulted in indictments or guilty pleas for 32 people and three Russian companies.

"For context, the research in the dossier includes 17 memos produced by the former spy Christopher Steele," Smith explained. "They allege misconduct and a conspiracy between members of the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 e******n, places and timelines matching his reports, or later confirmed as true."

It is true that a Republican donor, opposed to Trump, began background research on Trump through Fusion GPS but that was long before the dossier came into being.

Once Trump wrapped up the nomination, Hillary and the DNC hired the same company to research Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Steele and Steele created the dossier.

I'm sure that every candidate had his or her own research done on the opposition. That is normal. What is not normal is hiring a foreign spy who openly h**ed Trump and then inventing a fiction and using it to create a dossier. Even the FBI fired Steele for his unreliable behavior. Still, they used the dossier to acquire the FISA warrants.

Using Shep Smith as an authority on anything political is self defeating. He h**es Trump as much as Hillary does.

It was NOT compiled by a Conservative organization. The dossier was created by Steele and other opposition research was done by Fusion GPS. Neither one is Conservative.

The only Conservative involvement in anything to do with the whole thing was legitimate opposition research conducted BEFORE Trump was nominated. Clinton/DNC/Steele all occurred after he got the Republican nomination.
