Talk about f**e news!!! These are exaggerations or outright lies.
"Presided over a Justice Department investigation in which years' worth of email and phone records belonging to a New York Times reporter were seized in connection with a leak investigation."
This was the Obama investigation. How could Trump preside over an investigation going on for years when he only took office in Jan 2017?
"Threatened to change libel laws to make it easier to sue publishers and news organizations following the release of an unflattering book."
He said he wanted to "take a strong look at libel laws" Reading and comprehension must not be your strong suit.
"Demanded the Washington Post fire a reporter over an inaccurate tweet about the crowd size at a Trump rally, which the reporter apologized for and deleted."
Reading and comprehension. A suggestion is NOT a demand.
"Urged people to sue ABC News over a retracted report, which Trump claimed caused the stock market to fall and investors to lose money."
This is true as far as you've gone. But is far from the whole story. Even if a story retraction is publicized as widely as the initial story (which is never the case) will it give people back the money they lost on the falling stocks? Trump tweeted, âPeople who lost money when the Stock Market went down 350 points based on the False and Dishonest reporting of Brian Ross of @ABC News (he has been suspended), should consider hiring a lawyer and suing ABC for the damages this bad reporting has caused â many millions of dollars!â But note. This was specific to a particular story, not a call to sue media in general without cause.
"On the day that Russia enacted restrictions on foreign news outlets, tweeted: âCNN International is still a major source of (F**e) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the t***h from them!â He then called for a contest between CNN and other outlets, apart from Fox, to see which has âthe most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me).â"
And your point? How is this reducing freedom of the press?
"Said it is âfrankly d********g the way the press is able to write wh**ever they want to writeâ in a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau."
It is d********g. Journalists use to need multiple sources to report a story, and at least some must be named sources. Integrity is no longer a hallmark of journalism.
"Threatened to cancel the broadcast licenses of media companies that offer negative coverage of him."
He said, âWith all of the F**e News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!â This is a question. He never threatened to cancel their license!!!!
"Had the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, call on ESPN to fire Jemele Hill for criticizing him."
You make it sound like an order was given. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said ESPN should fire one of its sports anchors for calling President Donald Trump "a w***e s*********t". Again. There was NO lessening of freedom of the press.
"Threatened legal action against a journalist and publisher over a book that includes critical statements about him."
It's funny that up until Bannon criticized Trump, he was reviled by the left and there was a campaign to shut down Breitbart. Suddenly he was the media's golden boy.
"Tweeted mocking images of him wrestling a CNN reporter and his campaign hitting a CNN reporter with a train."
So you and he have a different taste in humor. And this prevents freedom of the press how?
"Overseen a Justice Department review of policies for subpoenaing media organizations in an effort to crack down on both whistleblowers and journalists. As of November 2017, investigations of leaks by the department reportedly grew 800 percent under Jeff Sessions."
The Obama policy of subpoenaing journalists to crack down on whistleblowers is what was being reviewed. NO journalists have been subpoenaed since Trump took over. Leak investigations? Yes. But no more legal actions against journalist for receiving leaked info or even publishing it. It is the leakers which are being sought, not the journalists receiving the info.
"Pledged to âfight the #F**eNewsâ with a Polish leader hostile to press freedom."
Duda tweeted "Let's FIGHT F**E NEWS," to which Trump responded "We will fight the #F**eNews with you!" This in no way pledges to suppress freedom of the press in Poland. Does Poland have constitutional guarantees on freedom of the press as we do? Whether they do or not, Trump did NOT suppress Polish media!
"Attacked reporters while speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has fostered a climate of violence against journalists."
At a photo op before their private G20 summit meeting, the Russian President leaned in to Mr Trump, gestured to the journalists in the room, and asked: "These are the ones hurting you?â
"These are the ones. You're right about that,â Mr Trump responded.
Hardly an attack. Funny that when masked a****a thugs use clubs to smash property, and set cars on fire, and even assault people; the left never calls it an attack. In fact the worst they say is it is a mostly peaceful protest.
"Said that his mission to âdrain the swampâ begins âwith the F**e News!â"
You almost had the quote correct.
Trump tweeted, "Drain the Swamp should be changed to Drain the Sewer - it's actually much worse than anyone ever thought, and it begins with the F**e News!" And this tweet suppresses freedom of the press how?
"Reportedly asked then-FBI Director James Comey to jail reporters who publish classified information."
Reported by who? Considering Trump has not been at all shy about criticizing the press, why would he keep this one secret.
"Tasked his former chief of staff with looking into changing the countryâs libel laws."
Which libel laws? There ARE NO federal libel laws. They vary from state to state. There was a discussion of whether or not anything could be done to encourage responsible news reporting and libel laws were brought up. No one was tasked into looking into changing any state's libel laws.
"Explored the prosecution of WikiLeaks for publishing CIA and State Department materials."
Only prosecution? No asking whether or not a drone could be used to take Assange out? Oh no. Sorry. That was Hillary. So what was being explored? Obama's case against Assange with multiple charges, including violating the espionage act, was still open when Trump took office. The case was reviewed to see if it should be continued or closed.
"Labeled the âf**e newsâ media âthe enemy of the people.â"
Trump Quote. "F**e news is the enemy of the American people." So unless you mean to say ALL media coverage is f**e news; then what you and many media outlets' headlines are stating is a lie! In other words, it is f**e news.
"Accused the media of lying about his âvery niceâ conversation with the Australian prime minister. Ultimately, a leaked transcript of the call showed it was Trump who was lying."
Have you read the transcript? Here it is. Point out where the lie is.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/04/full-transcript-of-trumps-phone-call-with-australian-prime-minister-malcolm-turnbull"Urged someone to buy the New York Times to âeither run it correctly or let it fold.â"
Unless he causes it to be bought and then controls what is published or orders it closed; it is NOT suppression of freedom of the press to display exasperation by calling on "someone" to do something!
I'm sorry you didn't investigate what you posted before making a fool of yourself. None of these examples come close to suppressing freedom of the press. And the biggest proof that Trump isn't suppressing freedom of the press is the media is publishing plenty of negative articles on Trump. It is when virtually any criticism of a president dries up in the media that it is a red f**g that the freedom of the press is being suppressed.
