I find it alarming that this individual passed all of the screening layers necessary to work near planes. I am guessing he passed with flying colors, all of the psychological and background checks that likely weeded out more sane people than him. After this very likely they will institute expensive safe guards to prevent it happening again, which of course will make someone else's job more dangerous and harder.

This guy did not want to harm anyone else. I suppose it may keep him out of Hell.

Pretty much. What ever reaction to this by the government will be stupid. I think there likely will be more psychological tests ordered for existing employees with access to dangerous equipment. This guy passed what ever security checks he needed, and then he just went crazy later on.

He was probably okay when he took the tests. Then his doctor probably decided he needed anti depressants and poof! Coo coo town.

Once he started the plane up he knew he would be fired. Then when he was doing his barrel rolls and they tried to talk him down, he wasn't going to face the consequences of his actions, loss of job, jail, psychiatric hospitals. Suicide was preferable. He wanted as much time flying as possible, which is evident by his comments on how fast his fuel was being used up, but he did not seem to care that ultimately he would die.

You bring up an interesting point. They did not say whether he had a wife or children, but I am thinking no. I would guess that his dependents or heirs would have claims on any unused vacation time and company paid life insurance, however since he committed a criminal act against the company and probably cost them several million dollars, that likely does not apply. Unless of course he was unionized. The union might be forced by it's bylaws to fight for death benefits for his estate. They can claim mental illness and nobody could disprove that.

This seems a lawyer's dream.
