WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has directed a "vast, government-wide effort" to protect American e******ns after Russian attempts to interfere in 2016, the White House said Thursday.

Responding to bipartisan criticism that it has no clear national strategy to protect the country during the upcoming midterms and beyond, John Bolton, the national security adviser, wrote in a letter to Senate Democrats that "President Trump has not and will not tolerate interference in America's system of representative government."

The warning to American adversaries came as top U.S. intelligence and homeland security officials raised alarms about potential efforts to influence the 2018 and 2020 e******ns. Homeland security chief Kirstjen Nielsen said: "Our democracy is in the crosshairs."

"We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States," Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said.

Their comments during a White House briefing followed weeks after Trump publicly undermined the conclusions of American intelligence agencies regarding Russian interference. After suffering a bipartisan outcry, Trump later said he accepted those conclusions.

They, along with National Security Agency director Gen. Paul Nakasone and FBI Director Christopher Wray, appeared at the White House Thursday to try to reassure the American people they are doing everything in their power to address the threat.

"We're throwing everything at it," Co More

Since when is a "pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States," interfering in our e******ns? Are the interwaves free to all? are the Russians or anyone else banned from social media and the internet within the US?? Do we ban anti-Trumps for their messaging or the anti-l*****ts for theirs??

The only thing that needs to be protected is the possible ways actual v**es can be changed after they have been cast. That's it and that's all. But wait, you've got the left wanting to let people v**e without v**er ID and in some places actually wanting to let i******s v**e. Are you F-ing kidding me????

This nation is up side down because they are worried someone might actually change their mind about who to v**e for by entering the discussion and convince them to change their preferences. Do you mean we cannot discuss it or offer our opinions about the other candidates and why we do or don't like them?????????? Would it be wrong to discuss the e******n candidates with anyone outside of the country?

Get real!!!!!!!!!

This is a bit off topic, but I am really concerned about these fresking Russians. I was happily watching Friends instead of f**e news and the Russians hacked my TV and now cable isn’t working at all. I did not know it was a crime to not watch f**e news. I just wanted to find out if Rachel and Ross ever got together and married. Such a tragedy!!
