DL Hughley Calls Cowboys QB Dak Prescott ‘Boy’ For Standing For National Anthem
On Monday, comedian DL Hughley, frequent CNN contributor and host of The DL Hughley Show on syndicated radio, launched into an attack on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott had stated that he would stand for the National Anthem, explaining that it had nothing to do with the Cowboys’ ownership: “Whether I was wearing the star or not, whether I was playing for Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, or any other owner, I believe in what I believe in and that’s that.” Prescott added, “We know about social injustice. I’m up for taking a next step, wh**ever that step may be for action and not just kneeling.”
This drove Hughley to unload on Prescott:
I understand you want to make your money. You could have said nothing, but you chose to speak for the master. You chose to speak for the master. And I say this — it’s perfect for that two players who would speak up for the Cowboys owner — at least you got the ’boy’ part right.
This sort of rhetoric is all too common on issues of race, where dissenting viewpoints are seen as heresy, and where dissenters are labeled t*****rs to their skin color. Prescott’s opinion is his own — he’s entitled to it, without having to face down accusations that he’s sold out other black people. Unlike religion, for example, skin color has nothing to do with politics. Being black does not dictate your opinion of kneeling for the National Anthem — intertwining politics with skin color is the worst form of identity politics. But it’s become so regular on the Left that most people simply accept that sort of bigotry with unperturbed placidity.
We shouldn’t. Authentic black people can criticize kneeling for the anthem, or v**e for Donald Trump, or criticize Trump. Nothing makes Prescott less black than Lebron James or DL Hughley. Using race as a club to wield against those who think differently is simple bigotry.
