Hey ghostgotcha, hope all is well with you and yourin! I absolutely feel that prior government officials have no need to retain their security clearances. The actual situation is that it has been really nothing more than a courtesy in the past. For those that required a clearance of any kind and no longer work for the government, if it's necessary for current clearance holders to discuss national security issues pertaining to something they worked on, they can have an expedited security clearance for the wh**ever the subject matter is at hand. Otherwise, they have no business what so ever in the retention of those security clearances.

Security clearances are supposed to be awarded on a need-to-know basis. What need is there for any formerly classified individual to know anything about an area he/she no longer works in? Pull the clearances as a matter of course.

I would have assumed the day someone left the job the clearance would be cancelled.

this is the way it used to be. when you no longer needed to know you did not need to know.
