Trumpet’s most ardent D.C. defenders are showing themselves to be a bunch of clowns

Of President Bill Clinton, it was often said, was “... unendingly fortunate in his enemies.” Wh**ever his mistakes and t***sgressions, his salvation would come in the form of Republicans consumed by loathing, eager to believe any ludicrous conspiracy theory, possessed of dreadful political judgment and unable to tamp down their worst instincts. Over and over, the American public looked at the controversies of his presidency and said: “I don’t approve of what he supposedly did. But, my God! Those Republicans need to put a sock in it, already.!”

In comparison, President Trump’s panoply of sins make both Clintons look like a couple of living saints. And, his most ardent defenders in Congress are such a bunch of ultra-Right, extremist buffoons that they make even the Republicans who impeached Clinton over an extra-marital affair look quasi-smart and semi-reasonable. It would be hard enough to advocate for Donald Trump if you were highly sk**led and had a keen political sense. It, with this group of incompetent nincompoops behind him, Trump would be better-off being all alone to defend and justify himself.

Now, some of you may think I’m being unfair to these “committed public servants,” but let’s take a look at their latest antics:
Conservative lawmakers, on Wednesday, introduced a resolution calling for the impeachment of Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, in a move that marks a dramatic escalation in the battle over the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 e******n.

The effort, led by Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), also sets up a showdown with House Republican leaders, who have distanced themselves (to the point of having different ZIP Codes) from calls to remove Rosenstein from office. But, Meadows and Jordan stopped just short of forcing an immediate v**e on the measure, mercifully sparing Republican lawmakers, for now, from a potential dilemma.

And, today, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who is considering a run to replace Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) as speaker, said he supports the move. And, guess who else is running for speaker: Jim Jordan! Yippie? Maybe?

Just so it’s clear, the real purpose of this farcical battle, members of the House Freedom Caucus are having with Rosenstein, is to offer/provide/cover/deflect a justification for Trumpet to fire him, whereupon Trumpet could install some doofus lackey minion whom, he would then order to fire special counsel, Robert Mueller, or to put constraints on Mueller’s investigation.

They’ve been fighting with Rosenstein over large numbers of documents they’ve been demanding, relating to both the Russia investigation and the probe into Hillary Clinton’s emails. But, as The Post has noted, even Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the “Inspector Javert of B******i,” said he, “... believed that the Justice Department officials were making progress toward complying with the subpoena and that impeaching Rosenstein would be a bad idea.” Ryan said today that, “... progress was being made on getting all the documents the Freedom Caucus members want.” Ryan opposes this impeachment resolution, not only because it’s stupid and ridiculous, but also, and almost certainly, because he knows how terrible it looks, especially when Republicans are trying to argue that if Democrats take the House, they’ll do something crazy like, impeach the president! (Oh, YES! PLEASE! Bring it on!)

But, to understand the effort to impeach Rosenstein, in all its hare-brained majesty, you have to look at the document itself. Allow me to summarize its five(5) articles:

• Article I: A group of conservative House Republicans asked for a second special counsel to investigate the “supposed FBI conspiracy” against Donald Trump. Attorney General Jeff Sessions rejected their demand. Rod Rosenstein hasn’t recused himself from investigating the supposed abuses the non-existent second special counsel would have investigated. Therefore, Rod Rosenstein must be impeached and removed from office.

• Article II: Rosenstein hasn’t produced documents Republicans have demanded in a “timely enough fashion.” Therefore, he must be impeached and removed from office.

• Article III: Some documents that have been given to Congress contain redactions that Republicans find “unnecessary.” Therefore, Rosenstein must be impeached and removed from office.

• Article IV: The public version of the memo Rosenstein wrote laying out the parameters of Robert Mueller’s investigation contains redactions. Therefore, Rosenstein must be impeached and removed from office.

• Article V: The Steele dossier was used as part of the application to obtain a FISA warrant in 2016 to surveil Carter Page. Therefore, Rosenstein must be impeached and removed from office.

Now, if you’re clever and informed, you might have caught an important fact about that last, 5th, Article of Impeachment. In 2016, when the initial FISA warrant was approved, Rod Rosenstein was NOT deputy attorney general. He was, at that time, a U.S. attorney, in Maryland; a position he had held since being appointed by George W. Bush in 2005. He didn’t become deputy attorney general until April 2017, when he was appointed to that position by Donald Trump. While the FISA warrant for Page was renewed multiple times in 2017 (and approved by multiple judges), and, as the resolution breathlessly notes, Rosenstein did indeed sign one(1) of the renewal applications, this fifth(5th) Impeachment Resolution (see above) specifically focuses on the initial warrant application in 2016.

Perhaps, the Freedom Caucus crusaders will amend their Articles of Impeachment to include an Article VI: “Unauthorized use of a time machine!”

As inane as Articles I through IV are, I can’t quite get past Article V. When they were drafting this, didn’t anyone pipe up and say, “Um, wait a second fellas, wasn’t that FISA warrant for Carter Page approved while Obama was still president?” Apparently not.

And, for just how long have these mindless minions of Trumpet been threatening to impeach Rob Rosenstein? A few months? Anyone capable of independent and unbiased thought would think that this group of people would’ve had plenty of time to get their facts straight. Oh, wait! Facts?! Facts just get in the way of their goal of ending the investigation into Russian interference into our 2016 e******ns and what part, if any, Trumpet and his team may have played in it. Actually, most people capable of independent and unbiased thought would conclude this threat of impeachment is part of a coordinated attempt at continued obstruction justice by these GOPTPers.

And, this is hardly the first time the president’s defenders in the House have said, “Oh boy, we’ve really got Mueller now!” only to be-clown themselves in spectacular fashion. You may remember the “Nunes memo,” which they hyper-hyped for weeks as “THE definitive proof that the entire Mueller investigation was based on a lie,” but, which turned out to be nothing more than a pathetic jumble of misleading assertions and absurdly tendentious arguments; it was such a dud that many Republicans quickly distanced themselves from it. Again, different ZIP Codes.

Then, when Republicans called FBI agent Peter Strzok to testify earlier this month, they thought they’d finally discredit the Mueller investigation. But, instead, the hearing turned into a circus of ridiculous charges, shouted insults and more GOPTP “facts” found to be lies. By the end of the hearing, Strzok looked like the most reasonable person in the room and the Republican members of Congress once again looked like utter buffoons. And, when the FISA warrant for Page’s surveillance was released publicly last week, the fantastical claims Republicans made about how unfair it was were even further discredited.

If I were Trump, I’d be looking for more “helpful” friends. As my old high school football coach used to say, “If you can’t help us, don’t hurt us.” The problem seems to be that no one, especially one with any sense, wants to make themselves into a Trump defender; not only because it’s so asinine to argue that an unprecedented attack on American democracy should not be investigated, but also, because once you start defending Trump, who knows what else you’ll have to justify, only to wind up publicly humiliating yourself in the attempt(s) .

I’m not saying you HAVE to be an imbecile with only a single-digit IQ to defend Trumpet (although, it DOES appear to help when defending yourself in the court of public opinion). In fact, mounting any defense of Trumpet, with even a minutiae of a minutiae of a single degree of effectiveness, would require an extraordinarily nimble mind, in addition to extremely flexible, if not, non-existent morals. But, maybe, it is not a coincidence that some of the biggest clowns in Washington are the ones most eager to stick-up for him. After all, Trumpet’s shown himself to be a very hard act to follow, since it’s a “given” that he’s going to lie about something. He’s been caught lying so often, even he, himself, can’t keep up with them. He’s flipped his position on so many subjects, so many times, it’s no wonder he can’t keep any decent help around for long. They simply burn-out from trying to play catch-up after he’s opened his lying mouth and reversed himself once again.

From playing sports in high school and college, I’ve heard the expression of “being f**ed out of your jockstrap,” many times. But, for those who try to defend Trumpet, day-in and day-out, their jockstrap is the least of their worries of being f**ed-out of. Their morals and reputations are what they should be concerned about the most.

I find it totally hysterical that not one of you have posted the first iota of factual rebuttal to my post. However, all of you have resorted to character assignation and insults. As usual, by posting only insults and character assignation against me, you all have lost the argument with your first posts.

Are you guys enjoying your “intellectual incest meeting?” Y’all are doing a great job of slapping one another on the back and congratulating one another on your insults to me.

Honestly alabuck, there's too much junk there to deal with. Try shortening it up a bit, and see what happens. That was too long winded.

Besides all that, I just don't care anymore. I'm so burned out, and over the "we h**e Trump" hysteria, I'm ready to see him go so yall can start in on Pence, and provide some fresh entertainment.

And I still maintain that if he had run, and won wearing a blue jersey, all of yall would be behind him 100%.

What pray tell is "an possessing opinion writer"? Do you really think anyone will accept the opinion of a flack, who is echoing the party line, illuminated by the WAPO as having any validity. Many of us watched those hearings where Rosenstein tap danced around the questions being asked until you wanted to throttle him and Strzok simply lied and claimed the moral high ground when the evidence against him was overwhelmingly to the contrary.

We are all tired of waiting for obvious malefactors to be brought to justice. This endless fishing expedition is not in the same body of water as the known criminals and this is why Rosenstein is being impeached; if he won't do his job someone else will be found to do it. Hillary needs to stand trial before any statute of limitations applies. Comey has admitted to breach of the security laws. Brennan has lied under oath. When are these criminals going to be called to task? The DOJ has this responsibility but if it is not going to be prosecuted because of the inactions of two men then those two must go. Justice will be served.

I don't even read his posts along with a number of others on OPP. It is a waste of time for the most part. Others I don't read are rumitoid, Bad Bob, permafrost, moldyoldy, airforceone, and I think that there are several others as well.

You posted mostly an opinion written by someone else. Your post didn't have that many facts, why do you demand them for a rebuttal?
As for anyone defending Trump being possessed of a single digit IQ, I am defending Trump. You may be in for a surprise. You have no room to speak of "character assignation" (that would be assassination; an assignation is a private or secret meeting, usually romantic in nature) when you speak of those who disagree with you as having single digit IQ's.

You should be used to this. I copied your writing style. And, now you know what effect your posts have on those of us who want what’s best for the country as a whole, and not what’s best for the top 10% at the expense of the other 90%.
