Why should Trump care if Britian leaves the EU or not or leaves with a clean break or not?

From his remarks it appears that Trump wants Britian to make a clean break from the EU without any residual ties. But what difference should it make to Trump or the United States whether or not Britian leaves the EU at all or whether it leaves with or without any surviving attachments? If someone knows would they post the answer.

It is my understanding that 62% of the Brits polled want out. It’s not helping them, it’s hurting them. Why shouldn’t our President want to see his fellow mankind freed?
