Right of refugees, asylum seekers to work in the U.S

Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinds guidance safeguarding the oright of refugees, asylum seekers t work in the U.S.

The 2011 guidance, which was issued by the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-related Unfair Employment Practices, ensured asylum seekers and refugees were “authorized to work indefinitely” and could obtain Social Security cards “without employment restrictions.”

The guidance also barred employers from demanding Department of Homeland Security-issued immigration documents from refugees and asylum seekers as long as they could present Social Security cards or American driver’s licenses.

In another blow to immigrants, Sessions included a 2009 guidance on the chopping block that urged employers to “avoid ‘citizens only’ hiring policies,” such as demanding a “particular immigration status” from job applicants.

Score one for American workers..... without doubt, this will give "undocumented" trespassers another reason to stay home. Now if we could get a rollback on other programs signed into law by obama......

There wouldn't be 11 to 22 million i******s (depends on who you ask) if American Business didn't have a desire for their labor. If you come to Texas there is hardly a construction company that doesn't have mostly i******s working for it. The irony is that if they were all deported where would we find qualified tradesmen to fill their positions? In the 90's I paid a master painter (someone who had his own tools and was accomplished in ever aspect of painting) twenty an hour plus full benefits and today they will make only 15 an hour--that's if I can find one at all.

You won't hear a single Texan argue for i*****l i*********n but until you go after the businesses that hire i******s, and use them to drive down wages for everyone, you will never stop i*****l i*********n and ironically if you did--just where in the hell are we going to get qualified people to replace the people we deport?

The only reason we have an issue with undocumented immigrants is that it is too difficult to legally come here. We should increase the number of people who are allowed to immigrate. The other action that would reduce undocumented immigration would be to make it a five year felony for a company to employ undocumented workers and seize their assets under RICO if they did.

Asylum seekers must be granted temporary working permits so that they could earn something to support them selves. While their status is being investigated and monitored concerning qualifications for asylum. Not all asylum seekers are qualified. Some may be found unqualified, and have lied.

I don't often agree with you, but you are right about penalizing those companies that knowingly hire i******s. The government promotes the e-verify system to help employers from hiring i******s. If a company uses e-verify and the worker turns out to be illegal, no penalty to the company. If the company doesn't use e-verify, they should be assessed the maximum penalty.

A chinaman surgeon got hold of me. I needed surgery on my neck. The V. A. said he was 1of the best. I was without us of my right arm for over a year. 13 months of physical therapy, now I have to wear a support the rest of my life. I will not see Asian doctors!

When I was much younger, qualified people of the sort to which you refer could be found at the local high school. No one hired i******s for landscaping and pool maintenance because there were so many high school kids looking for go to the movies money. The "jobs Americans won't do" used to be done by Americans, usually high school kids or college students. Hell, one of my doctors worked for a plumber during his summers while in college.

Talent, hard work, and good vision in life is the key to success. Remember Sean Hannity, he is so proud telling his audience, he worked once as a dishwasher, when young. Now, he is proud telling what he did. A good role model for kids.

But all refugees and asylees are, immediately, signed up for all welfare services plus cash, no applying for them, no waiting for them. I don't think ANY noncitizens, ever, should have access to any of the rights/benefits/privileges always meant for citizens ONLY. I think granting refuge or asylum should be severely limited and restricted to our original list of acceptable reasons. Then, I think all these American so-called charitable organizations should sponsor one or more of these people and be totally responsible for them forever. I think ALL grants of refugees/asylees should be temporary for a strictly limited amount of time and when the "feared" situation in their country changes they should be returned home promptly. I agree to giving them a temporary work permit while they are here, but NO social security number/card, no drivers license, no green card and no citizenship. Offering asylum/refuge should always be done with return home in mind and we should keep close track of them and of the situation at home. For example, things have improved greatly in Syria and that nation is imploring their citizens to return home and help their country rebuild. And that is exactly what SHOULD happen. Of course, I think it was cowardly and unpatriotic for them to run away in the first place.

I think that our congress and senators should set it up so that our medicare and medicaid is financed to the year 2050. We have our SSi financed out to at least 2050 and a plan in place to keep it working for fifty more years. We have our own citizens taken care of for free lunches and breakfasts. Then after we take care of our own we can start looking at the i******s but not until our citizens are taken care of first.
