A report that Donald Trump is looking to walk away from the World Trade Organisation and instead adopt a United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act, or Fart Act, has been greeted with loud amusement on Twitter.

Axios reported that it had received a leaked early draft of a bill ordered by the president, that would see America take the unlikely step of abandoning WTO rules, allowing Trump to raise tariffs without the consent of Congress.

The bill – the existence of which has not been independently confirmed – would be a dramatic shift in trade policy with wide-reaching impacts, but it was the name of the proposed bill that caught people’s attention

Your sources are incorrect on a couple of fronts... The President cannot have the USA withdraw from the WTO without the consent of Congress... Congress was the means by which the USA entered the WTO, and it would be the means to leave it... Also, Congress is the responsible body to raise and lower tariffs, not the President...

To put in bluntly... The President cannot FART without Congress' consent...

Next you will claim that the President will have too ask Congress to go to the bathroom. Wake up this is not grade school.

Congress ONLY MAKES THE LAWS the President sees they are enforced. The last eight years most laws were ignored because they interfered with the Obama agenda.

old marine...

You are correct... This is not grade school...

You need to read Our USA Constitution...

Article 1 Section 8 states: "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises"...
So, Congress does more than Make Laws...
But you are correct in that the President only enforces those taxes and tariffs (tariffs being a tax on imports and exports) Congress passes...

This isn't about what Laws and Regulations were enforced or ignored during the Obama Presidency... Forget about that...
This is about President Trump not having the authority to have the USA drop out of the WTO, nor can he adjust any tariffs...
This is about FART, if the President cares to have this enacted, must be presented to Congress, and they must pass it...

Axios reported on Friday that Trump wanted to leave the WTO, a story dismissed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin as "wrong" and "an exaggeration"....

I studied constitutional law in college and still have a nice refrence to what the constitution says.

Obama ignored laws he didn't agree with and so did most all his cabinet. A setting President CAN over ride another ex-President executive order or agreement like the Obamas Dreamer law.

An agreement is just that it a not a law.

A treaty with another country must be approved by the Congress. Like the Iran nuclear deal it was not approved by Congress.

I'm saying forget Obama because what he did was horrific, but Trump has been in Office for 17 months now, and it is much more important to support Pres Trump against the Dem/Rino Incumbents than rehash Obama's Dictatorship... The more Conservatives We Elect in 2018, the less trouble Pres Trump will have the next 2 years... And the better off We the USA Citizens will be...

trump is the most corrupt president in history.
most of obamas time in office republicans controlled congress why didn't the lazy bastards do something then.
same reason that they don't do anything now Republicans can't govern.

Oh come now; we have Canada, Mexico, England, the EU, and China all in the process of raising tariffs on the United States. Clearly Trump FARTED long ago and congress did nothing to stop it...
